Mega Mash-Up: Aliens vs. Mad Scientists Under the Ocean

Overview

Introducing Mega Mash-ups from Nosy Crow, an imprint of Candlewick Press!

The earth is in peril! Aliens are trying to stop it from spinning so that everyone will fall off and they can take over. Mwa-ha-ha-ha! But fear not! The Mad Scientists are building a genius underwater machine to save the day. If only the Aliens would stop zapping them with their Frazzelizers. . . .

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Debra Lampert-Rudman
Designed to be of particular interest to boy readers seven years and older, and to encourage reading, writing, and creativity, "Mega Mash-Ups" from the Candlewick Press imprint Nosy Crow, provides simple illustrated drawing guides and easy-to-read story prompts. The cover even has a line for the would-be author to write his own name in as the author here. In Mega Mash-Up #3, it is a battle for the earth between the Mad Scientists and Aliens, who want a special machine that is under the ocean. The six-chapter book begins with an introduction to the ten characters, and drawing tools and textures. The story's ending is basically up to the reader, reminiscent of Mad-Libs. Chapter six is entitled "The Blob's A Genius" and includes a picture glossary. Nobel Prizes, the Earth in Peril, and Frazzelizer-zapping Aliens are part of the silly fun. This paperback is worthwhile as a doodle journal or, possibly, as encouragement for reluctant readers. Reviewer: Debra Lampert-Rudman
