Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Joella Peterson
This is the fourth edition of the "Mega Mash-Up" series. Here readers will become part of the story as they draw in details and fill in text bubbles of this adventure in a haunted museum. A group of pirates are out of loot. A group of mummies are out of immortality oil. Both believe their problems can be solved if they go steal a golden monkey from an abandoned museum that is on the verge of being torn down. Of course the swash-bucklers tangle with the Egyptian dead and all chaos descends upon an already disordered building. As readers draw in the details they will be delighted with the "super star" twist of an ending—where even the golden monkey is pleased with how things turned out. Even though this story has loads of opportunities for readers to add their own touches and details, the story arc is solid and pleasantly speckled with humorous particulars. And readers aren't left to creatively fend for themselves with blank pages; suggestions of what pirate or mummy details to draw are packed on every page (with a picture glossary at the end of the book to help those who might not know how to exactly draw certain objects). Although this is a perfect book for those creative readers who enjoy making a story their own, libraries might want to hold off from buying this draw-on-every-page comedy. Reviewer: Joella Peterson
