Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Erika Clark
At a construction site in the woods, a barrel of toxic waste spills over into a pool. A slip into this strange and poisoned pool caused the slugs to turn into giant evil mutants. While the ambitious leader Slimeball declares his goal to take over the world, two secret agents organize Operation Slime Time at head quarters to bring these slimy creatures down. “Would the spies vanquish them with their secret weapon? You’ll have to finish the illustrations and find out…” This story is untraditional, yet appealing, in a way that it allows the reader to become one of the authors. Unlike other stories, this interactive adventure invites the reader to complete illustrations for the text. By drawing pictures for specific sections of the narration, the reader acquires a deeper understanding of higher-level words and phrases. Similarly, readers are prompted by the authors to think of individual sounds from everyday actions. After the reader determines the letters that represents those sounds in order to write the onomatopoeias, the readers learn that there are various forms to represent informal language in English. A great selection to keep the reader engaged and practice creativity with story telling. Reviewer: Erika Clark; Ages 7 to 10.
