This is my type of beginning Mandolin book. The focus is on learning the notes first rather than the chords. This is perfect for me because being able to play easy songs early on allows me to gauge my progress. Being able to play chords is wonderful, but can songs be identified by the chords alone? Mel Bay's Complete Mandolin Method used in conjunction with a solid book on chords gives the novice an excellent foundation.
