Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sylvia Firth
Kirsty, who has been taking ballet lessons for a year, and her best friend Rachel are looking forward to this evening's dance recital and party at the town hall. Both girls also enjoy their friendship with fairies. They are planning a special surprise for their king and queen on the occasion of the one thousandth anniversary of ruling the fairy kingdom. However, Jack Frost and his goblins have other ideas and are determined to steal the magical party bags of the fairies whenever they come to the rescue of human merrymaking. Sure enough, a goblin appears and disrupts the music for the ballet program. When Melodie arrives to fix the problem, her magic music bag is taken by a goblin. Predictably, the girls and Melodie (with her magic wand) manage to frighten the goblin into fleeing without the party bag. With the CD player beyond repair, Melodie uses her magic to produce music from some instruments conveniently located backstage. The performance goes on and is a huge success. Black and white illustrations are on each page and correspond well to what is occurring in the text. Six other titles are included in this series called "Party Series." The publisher refers to these books as Mass Market Paperbacks. They are very mediocre and as such are not really worth purchasing. Reviewer: Sylvia Firth
