Overview

A sweet and sexy second chance romance from New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Jessie Evans

Some fires never burn out...

After ten years as America's sweetest celebrity chef, Naomi Whitehouse is enjoying life out of the spotlight, back in her hometown of Summerville, Georgia. She's opening a pastry shop with her sister, housesitting for her snowbird parents, and reconnecting with her roots. Life is good until she runs into her high school sweetheart, Jake Hansen, a sexy firefighter who gives her a reception chilly enough to freeze a forest fire. If Naomi wants her homecoming to remain all cupcakes and sugar cookies, she'll have to win Jake over. But how can she earn his forgiveness when he won't even speak to her?

When the girl who broke his heart buys a month of dates at the firefighter's Hunk-for-a-Month fundraiser auction, only honor keeps widower Jake Hansen from backing out of the commitment. He won't let the firehouse down, even if it means enduring a torturous month with Naomi Whitehouse. And Jake knows being close to Naomi again will be torture. Even after all these years, she still gets to him...not that he intends to let her know it. He'll be civil, honor his obligation, and with any luck Naomi will tire of playing small-town pastry chef and Jake will never see her again.

But as the month passes, Jake and Naomi discover some fires never burn out. Will the heat between them be enough to melt away the pain of past mistakes, or is their second chance doomed from the start?

Meet the Author

Jessie Evans gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sassy, Southern romances she loves to read.

She's married to the man of her dreams, and together they're raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a tree house in the boonies. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.

When she's not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and wandering the woods, glass of wine and camera both in hand, on the lookout for Bigfoot.

    Loved

I've read a few other Jessie Evans novels in her other series, but this was my first in the Summerville series. Loved it! Naomi returns home to Summerville and is wanting to mend the past with her ex-boyfriend and high school sweetheart, Jake. They ended badly 15 years before and he's not interested in making amends. Eventually, they can't deny their attraction any longer and the sparks fly. However, a very big secret threatens to unravel everything they've rebuilt. I love HAE's. :)

This book is amazing!! Back in Summerville with a new cast of characters and some old friends too!  As teenagers Naomi and Jake had the perfect love until Naomi runs off leaving Jake with a broken heart and a Dear Jake letter.  He's never been the forgiving kind and he doesn't plan to start now just because Naomi's back. Treat yourself to this wonderful heartwarming story.  I'm so happy to have discovered Jessica Evans and you will be too.

    Awful

Awful. Completely terrible. There were so many plot holes a semi truck could easily drive through them. It was also one big information dump after another, for pages and pages. These dumps stopped ALL the action and made the pace slow. I had to go back a couple of times to even know where the plot was! He hates her, can't stand her, thinks she 'slept her way through every man' and yet they are in a janitor's closet the second time they meet? She 'hid' her big secret from the media-- yet her brother tells it a crowded bar??? The building was falling apart-- yet the sister could make and bake all these cookies? Worst of all, there's an ENTIRE chapter to an 'out of the blue' secondary story that is going to become Book 2. It didn't fit in and was nothing more than a 'you have to buy Bk 2 to see what happens'. Complete disappointment.

    Ok.

Pg136 the author states "based in the fictional town of summerville Ga" ......sweatheart ive lived in summerville ga my entire life. So im pretty sure nothing fictional about it. Other than my issue with that the overall story was alright.
