Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Susan A Trombley, AAS, RRT (William Beaumont Hospitals)
Description: In its 11th edition, this continues to be a leading text of anatomy and physiology, the interrelationships between structure and function, and the effects of diseases on the body systems. The accompanying CD-ROM features an image atlas and an audio pronunciation library.
Purpose: This book provides the essential knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. It illustrates the concepts with anatomic art that depicts the appropriate level of detail. This edition has been revised where needed to improve organization of the material.
Audience: This is ideal for all entry level healthcare professionals and students. The features and content specifically meet the needs of those starting their health career preparation with little or no science background.
Features: A body systems approach to the study of the normal human body is used. The book is divided into seven units, grouping related information and body systems together. The main glossary defines chapters in bold-faced terms. The appendixes include a variety of supplemental information, including a new dissection photo appendix. Checkpoint questions and answers are found in every chapter.
Assessment: This 11th edition of this classic book would be a valuable resource for school and public libraries as well.
