What a great story and the pictures are just adorable. Bright, colorful illustrations and just looking at the facial expressions on the fish are enjoyable and tell a lot about how the story is being played out. The pictures center on a fishbowl as it gets congested with an assortment of vibrant, detailed items. Told in diary format this is a chronological story of a goldfish who thinks this life is grand just swimming around in his bowl and day-by-day things start to arrive in his bowl and it starts getting crowded. From Mr. Bubbles, snails, crabs, a sunken ship and more fish, the goldfish is sarcastic about his new roomies, “I was trying to find room for a swim today when Rhonda and Clark told me that they’re going to have babies soon. Like there’s room for THAT.” I just love his attitude as he gets crunched in his bowl. Everyone seems to be having a good time but the goldfish. Soon, he gets his wish and his bowl is empty again except for himself and now, he’s having second thoughts. He’s beginning to wonder how everyone will survive without him. The ending will leave smiles on your face and it just a wonderful book, which you’ll want to read again and again.

Sigh...the life of a goldfish is, well, let's face it...dull. Swim, eat, nap, swim, eat, nap. What else is there to do in a tiny goldfish bowl? If you're curious (and you should be!), then check out Memoirs of a Goldfish! Life starts out pretty mundane for our featured goldfish: Day One - I swam around my bowl. Day Two - I swam around my bowl. Twice. Day Three - I swam around my bowl. I thought about taking a nap. But fish don't sleep. So I swam around my bowl. But on day four, well, that's when things start to get VERY interesting. You see, our goldfish gets a friend, a seriously funny friend. Then the next day another new friend shows up and each day after that, until that little bowl is just tooooo crowded. What will the goldfish do? He wants his bowl back! He wants HIS bowl, without any of those annoying newcomers. When the goldfish gets his wish, however, and he finds himself once again alone, he quickly realizes that he misses all his new friends. There is little doubt that this book will have your little one in stitches from page one. The story is sweet, goofy, and has a great ending; everything a good children’s book needs. The illustrations are absolutely perfect and together make for one very enjoyable story. Memoirs of a Goldfish has won numerous national awards including the prestigious "Children's Choices" award and it's easy to see why - it's a fun, silly, absolutely entertaining read. Quill says: Who knew the life of a goldfish could be so exciting? Check out this hysterical book and find out for yourself just what goes on in that goldfish bowl on your desk...

My husband and 4 year old love this book. It shows that even when the fishbowl (or house) gets full or feels a little crazy, we still love everyone in it. This is told in a very funny way, and always sends my son into giggles.

Great story about learning to appreciate - and - tolerate all in life that's annoying because being alone just isn't much fun. My grandsons love it and so do I.

Memoir of a Goldfish is simply said, Wonderful! Beautifully illustrated! We are introduced to a clever little goldfish that loves his simple lifestyle. He recounts 14 days of his life that start out simply as, "Day One... I swam around my bowl". But life even for a goldfish can get complicated and as the simple little bowl that serves as his home starts to fill up with other "fishbowl" items, such as Mr. Bubbles the scuba diver, Mervin the disgusting snail, and plants which he know he's going to have to "water now", the little goldfish laments for the simple solitary life he once had- until his wish comes true and he then realizes being alone isn't really as nice as all that. Children will delight in the memorable characters as they fill up the bowl! The story is wonderfully written and very clever! Children will learn the meaning of friendship and the value of sharing one's life with others. A sweet choice for children, but the adults in my household loved the story too!
