Following Tiger Man, released four weeks earlier, Memories: The '68 Comeback Special completed RCA's repackaging of material recorded for Presley, and the Elvis Presley television special broadcast in December 1968 that revitalized his career. All Music Guide - William Ruhlmann
Following Tiger Man, released four weeks earlier, Memories: The '68 Comeback Special completed RCA's repackaging of material recorded for Presley, and the Elvis Presley television special broadcast in December 1968 that revitalized his career. Where the single-disc Tiger Man presented an entire session from the informal performances in which a seated Presley revisited his old hits, the double-disc Memories basically was an expanded version of the TV soundtrack album, minus tracks used on Tiger Man, but with an additional 22 previously unreleased recordings out of its 35 selections, several of which were alternate takes, so that there was a fair amount of repetition on the album. All but four tracks were in mono. When the special aired, it was hailed as a return to form for a rock star who had spent most of the 1960s acting in mediocre movies and recording mediocre soundtrack albums. By largely returning to his 1950s repertoire and performing it before a studio audience, Presley reaffirmed his status and created a blueprint for his live shows for the rest of his career, even if the few newly written songs including the treacly title track did little to extend his appeal as a creative artist. Thirty years later, the special's impact could not be re-created, but the album did present committed performances of some of Presley's best-known songs, some of them in full-blown arrangements and others in the off-the-cuff, small-group sessions.

    Beyond comprehension.

This is the album to have. This is the prime of the Elvis phenomenia and it's chilling just how talented he was. This record, to me, embodies the idea of Elvis as a rock n roll force to be reckoned with. No one could sound like he did, before or after. There is no other one man and there is no other album that could quite shake you to your core like this. Listen and appreciate.

For the True and If you Just Want a Great Elvis Compulation

This is a masterpiece of his true talent. From the best Elvis had to offer.. his voice and his compassion. Even a moderate fan would appriciate this great recording!

    Memories

Dad and Rob could you please watch over the house, Gilles was just here looking for me a 3rd time now, I must stay out of sight completely, because I wrote him a note revieling my name as Golddust and to ask him to back off, as well to tell his pastors and christian hip ocrit friends to stop stalking and hunting me down, so here I will stay until the proper help arrives ... you guys with the silver auto... Gilles has now probably headed to pastor's house probably Greg Paulson or Tim Osiowy trying to figure out where I am or who I truely am. Bye the way I am out of sardines, but I can make a fancy soup I visited extra foods today, as well and walked thru all the people. Just now my body felt very cold as ice, death had passed thru so our new little ones could be protected thru genuine love after I barred my heart and sole to 620CJCI and Mr David Emerson of Canfor. And yes I heard the car alarm go off across the street thank you. I know things will be alright because someone will stop and read and listen with their heart, spirit, and sole. And they will find me at the location where I am in hiding now until that big Silver auto comes fully stretched to the kilt.
