What is memory and where in the brain is it stored? How is memory storage accomplished? Two scientists responsible for some of the fundamental research in the field answer these key questions in Memory, the first book for a general readership to offer an up-to-date, comprehensive overview of memory from molecules and cells to brain systems and cognition.
Disc. declarative memory; priming, perceptual & emotional learning; biological basis of individuality; & more.

Drs. Kandel and Squire have provided a book for everyone who wishes to learn about memory and learning. As a practicing neurologist, I found a great deal of helpful information; some of it was familiar, much was new, but all was presented in a tremendously lucid manner. A layperson would understand this book quite well, but it has much to offer a professional or a scientist in a related field.

This is an engaging, conversational book about synaptic memory. It is informal but rigorous, and will give you a snapshot of this science at its zenith in the late 1990s. For perspective, see also 'Spikes', by Rieke et al, and a similarly titled book by Steven Rose, 'Making of Memory: from Molecules to Mind.' For fun, see also the science fiction classic, 'Hauser's Memory.'
