I appreciate the clear, concise, and detailed tips that this book offers. Plenty of classy layouts are displayed along with pages of easy-to-follow instructions, diagrams, and photos. It is well organized, attractive, and uncluttered by extranious items. The book is, in short, very much like the scrapbooks it is teaching us to create.

Ok, so you have a lot of photos. Several years worth of snapshots of the kids are piled up in shoeboxes on the desk. Your wedding photos are enshrined in sticky 'magnetic' photo albums and you've been hearing they suck the life out of photos. The nagging overwhelming feeling that you ought to tackle the job just makes you want to throw up your hands and continue to put it off. But does it have to be like that? With all the attention on scrapbooking, you may be considering rescuing your photos and other bits of nostalgia, but may need some guidance and inspiration. Enter Memory Makers. Memory Makers magazine has been inspiring scrapbookers since their first issue in May 1996. Now Memory Makers offers a one hundred and twenty page book of scrapbooking inspiration, Memory Makers' Great Scrapbooks, by Michele Gerbrandt and Judith Durant. What I particularly like about both this book and Memory Makers magazine is their classy approach to scrapbooking. The scrapbook pages are beautifully photographed and displayed. There is a nice mix of styles -- cute, wacky, simple, elaborate, elegant, formal. While the scrapbook pages are often very full of color and photos and text, they somehow manage to avoid being cluttered or tacky. On the contrary, the color choices and layout of the scrapbooking pages work well together to create some great designs. Memory Makers' Great Scrapbooks shows off pages from readers and artists. The book is organized by page theme: Family Pages (Babies, Children, Pets, Teens), Heritage Pages, Special Events (Weddings and Travel), Seasons, Through the Year and Holidays. Each of these sections and subsections not only displays scrapbook page ideas, but also teaches at least one technique. Techniques covered include: paper piercing, using a Coluzzle template to create a photo puzzle, photo kaleidoscopes, punch art, layered paper cutting, paper piecing, paper folding, doors, and a basic pop-up. Also scattered throughout the book are tips, suggestions and lots and lots of ideas. The book also includes a source list and an illustrated glossary with references to the pages in the book where you will find each technique. A pocket on the back cover holds an added bonus -- two plastic templates, each with a slew of shapes and edges. Memory Makers' Great Scrapbooks will get you started on your first scrapbook. If you are already scrapbooking, you can bring the techniques, tips and inspiration to your own photo collection. I think you'll find this book to be a scrapbooking feast!
