A witty, comprehensive history of piano development set within the framework of European and U.S. social history. Loesser traces the development of the piano as the leadership & innovation shifts from Italy to Germany, England, France, and finally the United States, describing the role of the piano in the various societies. This is a brilliant book written by a man with specific knowledge of the many facets of piano history combined with a masterful grasp of general history. The ease with which he covers his subject enables Loesser to put forth a number of thought-provoking observations and conclusions. Each reader will, of course, draw his or her own conclusions, but Loesser's style manages to educate and stimulate in a manner that entertains. If you read only one book on the history of the piano, this should be the one.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
