Overview

This captivating story offers an insider's eye into a world of publishing, interior design, fashion and food.

As Elie Sands turns 50, she seems to have it all - a fabulous job as editor of an interior design magazine, a handsome, rich husband and two lovely daughters. She lives in a Central Park co-op and owns a home in the Hamptons. Her close friends are: Syd - the stunning 60 year-old who lives in the penthouse and follows her instincts without a care for the opinions of others, and Michael - the gay designer who is fastidious, flamboyant and wildly entertaining.

Life in the middle-aged lane seems to be gliding along just fine for these three Manhattanites, until bad news arrives. How they cope with their individual challenges and reassess their future is the essence of this novel, told in a witty and insightful manner.

Editorial Reviews

Every woman who has ever wondered about life should read this book

I should say wondered and wandered because this book has it all. Funny, well written, inspiring and touching it has all the elements of a bestseller. Well done Anne

    Five Star!

This was a great read! I'm not Jewish but this didn't matter. A very well written book and it gives you some very good insights into the Jewish life styles. You will love the characters and laugh and cry with them!

    Great Read!

This book is a great read! The characters are so well developed that you can close your eyes and imagine them in your head. I learned so much about art, food, friendship and the importance of having a good "sense of morality." I look forward to what has yet to be written by this author and will share this book with family and friends who are "women of a certain age" as well as "silver and sage." Well done, Anne!

    Dull

This book is poorly written in a simplistic, monotonous "he said, she said" style. I chose not to finish it.

Loved it. Ya just got to read it.

I thoroughly loved the book. It was an easy read. Had some funny stuff and teared up a couple times. You never know if you can achieve your dreams if you don't try. I would recommend the book.

    more from this reviewer

    A good read.

I liked the book. Crazy about it? Ehh! It was a bit to long for the outcome that was somewhat predictable. Funny, real to life and a Happy Ending. Who doesn't like a Happy Ending?

    Large Book with Large Laughs

If you want something to read that will boost your spirits and give you the "I can do it" attitude, this is it. Make sure you have plenty of time to read this as it is almost 1000 pages of fun. It is worth every minute of the read. The price is more than right. I have spent much more and not been as satisfied. Read, Smile and Feel Good About Yourself. This is a winner.

    Borrr...ing

This book went on and on and on about absolutely nothing! The two biggest obstacles for the character in this book was what to do after she quit her job (don't worry she's rich of course) and who to sleep with after the divorce. I guess the reader should care because the main characters are middle aged and Jewish. This book read like blah blah blah. I'm glad I paid little to nothing for this waste of shelf space.

    Decent Read

I liked this book well enough, but found it very heavy on the Jewish background. It was a little overkill for me, but the story itself was interesting enough to keep me reading.

    Hated for it to end!

Found this witty and fun book to be very entertaining! Great story with strong characters. According to her website, the author will soon release the second phase ... I'm sure it will be as fun as Menopause in Manhattan. Made me homesick for NYC.

    A Beach Read

An entertaining read but the story is predictable. Story of a 50-something magazine editor who divorces hubby on suspicion of cheating and kicks her life into gear as a solo woman. While the story has some interesting characters and situations, Kleinberg never really explores them with any depth and there were some open ends definitely worth exploring and exploiting for a more riveting read. OK read for the beach or long plane ride.

    Okay read

While I had trouble relating to the characters, as I'm not now & likely never will be so obscenely wealthy as all of them seem to be, I decided to finish the story anyway. I felt the plot dragged in places due to unnecessary details. So the characters are mostly Jewish, did I really need pages of descriptions on all things Jewish? I felt it actually pulled me from the story & I ended up skimming past those to get to the plot. I think the plot could have been tighter & more focused. Overall, though, this was an okay read.

    Loved This Book!

One of the best books I have read about the transformation some women make when one segment of their lives ends. Also this tells abput the questioning of one's life when women ask themselves: Is this it? Is this all I have to look forward to in the coming years? Where did the "me" of my youth go? Who am I now?
