A brand new novella from USA Today Bestselling author Jaye Wells ...

Meridian Six remembers the days before the Troika enslaved humans. She also remembers her mother, a freedom fighter murdered in the final battle between humans and vampires. But it is her mother's final words that have haunted her:

Red means life.

In the years since her mother's death, she has been used as both a propaganda tool and a blood slave by the Troika. She's withstood their indignities because the alternative meant bleeding out in a blood camp. But their abuses finally go too far, and she decides to run towards freedom and her mother's red light.

On the other side of the light, she meets a band of human rebels who want to take their world back from the Troika. The vampires used her famous name to keep human slaves biddable, but now the rebels will use it inspire a revolution. For Meridian Six, freedom is a luxury paid for with blood.

Editorial Reviews

Blue Ink Review - Paul Goat Allen
"A masterful fusion of post-apocalyptic fiction, dark fantasy, and subtle social commentary, this is, simply put, the best self-published vampire story I have read in my 20 years of reviewing. And it's just the beginning of a series that has the potential to change the landscape of genre fiction. Mark my words: It's that good."

What would you do if vampires suddenly took over the world, forcing all humans into blood camps caste by blood type and yours was considered ‘most desirable’? That’s the reality Carmina Sargosa (known to her vampire captors as “Meridian Six”) is faced with in this fast-paced short story. I haven’t read much vampire fiction before but I loved this story and the characters (both human and vampire) that make up this dystopian world. Six reminded me a lot of Katniss Everdeen from Hunger Games—she’s tough and will do whatever it takes to protect the people she cares about—but she’s also a reluctant rebel who’s thrust to the centerfold of a resistance that she hadn’t intended to be a part of in the first place. A really great (and quick) read for lovers of YA & fantasy novels!

Jaye Wells is best known (so far) for her Sabina Kane series which is also about vampires, but this world is much MUCH darker. Be prepared to enter a world that is intriguing & well-written, but not very pretty. It's a combination of dystopian future & evil vampire rulers all rolled into one. Personally, I tend to shy away from worlds this dark, but it still held me & made me read on. I understand there will be more of this world published in the future & I will probably return simply because Wells is one of my favorite authors & she crafts a wonderful story.
