I really didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. The reviews concerning the darkness of the character Dante is what got me to buy it. I've never read a romance novel before, I'm more of a historical-fiction type of reader, but intrigued by the torment and lust of the characters, I decided to give this book a try. In the first chapters, I didn't expect that I would even finish the book, it seemed cheesy. The merangle, all these super natural things going on, I didn't take the writing seriously, but then the plot was thickening and before I knew it, two days passed and I was done with the book writing this review. Lex and Dante's relationship is definintly a dysfunctional one, but also one that won't be leaving my mind for awhile. There are scenes that are so touching (like the one in the craft room). I was laughing, and crying, and intrigued by the story. A good read, especially if your husband is away on business! I didn't read the prequels to this book and had no problem not knowing the background. I may pick them up in the future, but I'm satisfied with the Mermaid's Ransom.

Dante's bad without being repulsive. Alexis is good without being sickening. The two manage to meet in that wonderful gray area where Joey Hill is so masterful. If you like a book with a well developed plot and interesting, complex characters, then give this one a go. As always with Ms. Hill, the sex scenes are creative. The subtle nuances of each encounter make each one unique and believable. The dominance/submission part of the story went a little too far for me this time, but it was appropriate, even necessary to the context of the story. Definitely read the Vampire Servant series prior to enjoying this book. A Mermaid's Ransom integrates characters from both "worlds" and gives away a great deal about the vampires that would ruin the suspense of the earlier books. Another one from Joey Hill that I couldn't put down.

This and all of her books are gems I will keep and re-read forever, but I must admit that I enjoyed the first book the very best then the second book right behind it, then this one a close last. They are all wonderful! Just this one was a little more violent and depressing than I'd hoped for...

A Mermaid’s Ransom  by Joey W. Hill Alexis is the only child of a love-match between an Angel and a Mermaid. She’s the goddaughter of a powerful Dark One Seawitch. She’s been watched over by heaven above and Lucifer below. However, no one expects her to find the love of her life in a horrible dimension that had been cut off from Earth many years ago. Dante was the offspring of rape. His mother was a powerful vampire and his sire a Dark One. Growing up in a wasteland without love, being forced to fight for everything he wanted, his life was torture. Dante will do anything to escape his prison, even kidnap the goddaughter of the powerful Seawitch. What brings Alexis and Dante together is more than fate. Together they must teach each other about the power of love as well as it’s double edged sword. Alexis comes off as pampered yet has a backbone of steel as she fights for what she wants and needs…Dante. Laughter, tenderness and love aren’t in Dante’s vocabulary until Alexis teaches him what those emotions are. I really enjoyed this third book in the Daughters of Arianne series. Having not read the first ones, I was able to easily follow along and connect with the storyline and backstory. A Mermaid’s Ransom is a stand alone that will leave you wondering about the lessons of love…and just who has the power in a relationship. Dante was so wounded, all I wanted to do was to fix him myself. His sensuality screamed off the page and I could imagine what I’d give for a moment in his arms. Ms. Hill writes a story that will appeal to all romance readers. The characters are engaging, witty and flawed but full of passion. Even the secondary characters bring extra zing to the story! Reba was a delight! Pick up your copy today!

great story about Faith and redemption infused with plenty of searing romance. A story that will make you more. After centuries of loss and heartache, Jonah has succumbed to a debilitating despair that threatens his very soul. Anna's innocent hopefulness stir feelings in him he thought long gone. But will her light be enough to save this war-weary angel? Jonah is just heart-breaking. His despair is so intense it makes one wonder just how he will be able to find his way out of the darkness that engulfs him. Yet along the way, we see glimpses of his heart that tell us he isn't completely lost, even if he himself doesn't realize it.Anna sees it, though. With her effervescent personality and her ability to find joy in the smallest of things, she is the perfect foil for his darkness, warming Jonah with a heart that is absolutely pure.

I was excited to read this story of Alexis, the daughter of Jonah and Anna. I really like Alexis but could find no like for Dante. I felt sorry for him, but had a hard time believing that Alexis loved him for him and not because he manipulated and used his vampire powers on her. Save your money.
