Editorial Reviews

From The Critics
Reviewer: Susan Lura Sanson, BS, RT (R) (Concordia University of Wisconsin)
Description: This ninth edition, three-volume atlas has added many unique features. At the beginning of each section there is a summary of positions/projections along with an icon indicating an essential or non-essential position. Full- color diagrams and pictures are included, along with 3D line art. There are expanded sections on radiation protection and patient care and an added chapter on bone densitometry.
Purpose: The purpose is to serve as a positioning reference for the student of radiography.
Audience: This atlas is designed as a positioning and procedures textbook for the student radiographer. The editors indicate it would be an excellent reference tool for the practicing technologists as well.
Features: The text includes an expanded section on radiation protection contributed by Stewart Bushong. Anatomy and positioning of the skeletal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and respiratory systems are covered. The chapter on computed radiography (CR) has been expanded and the editors use a CR icon throughout the new edition to indicated special considerations when using CR during standard radiographic procedures.
Assessment: As always, this three volume set is well done. It is an excellent tool for the student radiographer. The addition of color is welcomed. The new features of position summaries, icons to indicate essential views, and computed radiography considerations are very nice. Current basic positioning and procedures are covered very thoroughly. There are several non-essential views included in each unit. This text provides an expanded chapter on radiation protection and patient care. Volume three focuses on special procedures, cross sectional anatomy, and other imaging modalities. New to this edition is a chapter on bone densitometry. Based on a survey conducted by the editors, which assessed current practices, some views have been deleted from this edition. This would make a nice edition to any program library.

    used books rule!

I was a little reluctant to buy a used book especially on line since i didnt have the chance to look over the book myself and check the condition or how much the previous person marked it up. But i took a chance, saved $17 bucks and got a book that is in excelent condition!
