“These are visual, broadly oriented guides.”
Copub: Mondadori Electa
Written to provide a more accurate, less historiographically clouded interpretation of Mesopotamian culture, this superbly researched reference is filled with stunning artifact photographs, detailed maps, and essential informational sidebars. To clarify icons and relevant symbolic references, illustrations are elaborately annotated. Archaeologist Ascalone scrupulously examines the culture's surviving artifacts to paint an authentic portrait of the Mesopotamian way of life. Seven chapters span subjects as diverse as history, faith, the spirit world, urban planning, and daily life. Scholarly but accessible, this volume is highly recommended for collections focusing on art history, Middle Eastern culture, and classical studies.
