This is an excellent book on an obscure Baroque mystic and poet largely unknown in the USA. Silesius is thought to have walked a precarious tightrope during a time when religion was politics and Franck (interesting, as Silesius' very good friend was Abraham von FRANCKenburg!)has done a service in recognizing this writer from long ago. Silesius is said to have used his unexplained inheritance to aid in the welfare of orphans and to have contributed a large body of Protestant hymns. Was this review helpful?
