Messian Trois Melodies - Harawi is a new album recorded on the Naxos label by Hetna Regitze Bruun, Mezzo Soprano and Kristoffer Hyldig, piano. Olivier Messiaen was a modern French composer whose music is both harmonically and rhythimically complex. The first set of pieces on the album, Trois Melodies, were written by Messaien as a memorial to his mother. The second song cycle, Harawi, is from the Inca word 'Yaravi' and is a series of 12 songs that depict love and death. All the pieces are performed by Bruun and Hyldig with great skill. They're very much in sync with their interpretations of the music. Overall, the music left me feeling a little cold. There wasn't one particular piece that immediately grabbed my attention. If you're a strong admirer of the works of Messaien, then this album will fit nicely into your Messaien collection. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
