Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
K-Gr 2--Another "Messy Bessey" story, this title covers a familiar topic in a friendly way. After assessing the condition of her own desk, Bessey cleans out the useless things. She then helps her classmates to straighten their desks as well. In the end, her leadership is recognized and she is elected class president. Although the impending election is not specifically mentioned in the text, posters for it are shown in the full-page, cartoon illustrations. The limited sentence structure and vocabulary do not diminish the authors' ability to tell a good story. In addition, readers see a strong African-American character who is recognized for her organizational and communication skills. A winning selection.--Sharon R. Pearce, formerly at San Antonio Public Library, TX
