The incidence of malignant tumors of the upper aerodigestive tract is increasing. The carcinomas of this area, mostly squamous cell carcinomas, are often accompanied by cervical lymph node metastases. Frequently, the primary tumor causes no discomfort and its existence is inferred from the presence of metastases. The present book offers an extensive overview of the differential diagnosis of lymph node diseases and their therapy for physicians in many disciplines - principally those that deal with oncology of the head and neck region, but also general medicine and pediatrics. Detailed descriptions of lymphologic principles create a basis for the understanding of the various lymph node diseases. High-quality photographs and tables underline the high instructive value of this volume.

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Harold J Pelzer, D.D.S., M.D.(Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine)
Description: This is an in-depth presentation of a most important aspect of head and neck cancer.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a comprehensive presentation of the metastases of head and neck cancer. The book is definitely needed and it fulfills the author's objectives.
Audience: The book is written for practitioners involved the treatment of head and neck cancer as well as researchers in the field. The author is quite credible.
Features: All aspects of head and neck cancer metastases are covered. The book is wonderfully comprehensive. The only topic missing is the concept of subdermal metastases, or carcinomatosis. It is rare and uniformly terminal in my experience.
Assessment: This effort represents a wonderful source for the advanced head and neck physician. I'm happy to have it as part of my library.
