    It's not a novelization!

The novel was written at the same time, and by the same author, as the script. The film's anniversary is a great way to promote the book, but that is all. If you want a book about the movie, get one.

This book should have been better!!!

Let me begin by saying that I am a huge Metropolis (movie) fan. It wouldn't have taken much to please me when it comes to anything related to this fabulous film. I even splurged for the limited edition-signed-hardcover version, since it was the 75th Anniversary Edition! I've never read the novel and am looking forward to that. But after 75 years I felt this book deserved the deluxe treatment. There is no outer paper cover on my hardcover edition, there is not a single color photo in the book! There is no filmography history, no behind the scenes insight, no picture or memorabilia section, no reviews, essays, or discussions about the film, it's creator, or it's actors what-so-ever! I guess you get the picture...No Extras!!! I have to agree with the comment that this was 'a wasted opportunity'. Maybe they'll do a better edition when Metropolis turns 100.

    Excellent opportunity thrown away

On one hand, it is good to have the novel of METROPOLIS available once again. On the other, since the publication is a tie-in with the classic film, it is an opportunity wasted. The stills from the film are poorly reproduced (their quality is that of a poor copier)and reproductions of poster are both poor and in black & white instead of color. Furthermore, the novel is short so it would have been quite easy (and considerate) to reprint an excellent article on the special effects of the film that appeared many years ago in Ackerman's Famous Monsters magazine. An article on the various restorations of the film would also have been of interest especially since a restored version is making the rounds of some movie houses this year and (I believe) Kino video will make it available next year on DVD. But none of these happened and the poorly reproduced photos don't help.
