Meet the Author

Sylvia García-Escamilla was born in Mexico City in 1944. Once an elementary school teacher, she holds a Master's degree in intellectual and developmental disabilities. The first of her five children, Eduardo (now deceased), was born with Down syndrome. She has devoted her life's work to his memory. Following certification in top business management, she established the John Langdon Down Foundation in 1972, and later published the book El Niño con Síndrome de Down, which has been reprinted fourteen times. She is a correspondent for Spain's Minusval magazine and serves as an advisor to Down Syndrome International (DSI).
