Criticas
A three-time winner of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Book of the Year award, Lucado has developed a huge following among English and Spanish speakers alike. His best sellers include When God Whispers Your Name (World Pub., 1999), A Gentle Thunder (World Pub., 1995), and the recently released children's book and video Hermie: The Common Caterpillar (Thomas Nelson Pub., 2003). This latest history of Jesus, which was released simultaneously in English and Spanish, engages readers from the start. Lucado explores the paradox of Jesus as both fully human and fully divine, focusing on his ability to feel compassion for the people who surrounded him and yet keep his divine nature in tact. The essays, each built around an episode in his life, are moving and hopeful and at times amusing. In "No depende de usted" ("It's Not Up to You"), Jesus helps the priest Nicodemus come to terms with the notion of being born again. With all his head knowledge, the priest finally understands that being born again begins in the heart, not the body, and that Christ is in the "heart transplant" business. Another chapter portrays Jesus as "The Trashman," willing to take the burdens of others on himself. The book concludes with a useful discussion guide for either individual or group study. Although the translation includes some jargon, the overall content is outstanding. Highly recommended for bookstores and libraries with a Spanish-language religion section.
