Its Latin beat provides the backdrop for another side of this city, however, and one also well-known to the public, for paradise can become a purgatory where crime is rampant and drugs are on every street corner in too many neighborhoods. The main characters, a rough-hewn group of construction workers on a job site in Ft. Lauderdale, sojourn into Miami for a night out and encounter much more than they had bargained for as rogue cops, drug dealers, and a briefcase full of money all collide in a thriller that you won't be able to put down.

Sept 30, 2011 B&N review - Ronald Christopher
Fantastic

"once you begin it you will only want to see it end the way your mind wants it to. And it did exactly that for me. I shivered in places as the expectations I desired from this novel, came true."

    This is a great story

I agree with the previous reviewer that this book reads very fast. Even though this author has exceptionally short chapters, I just wanted to read on. I would skim from the first page of the chapter to the next chapter and see it seemed to never be that long and so I would read on. I really enjoyed the writer's choice of words and his descriptions were very vivid and real. I felt like it was a story he was telling to me in person, sort of. I highly recommend this to anyone who isn't feeling too good because for some reason it made me feel good; like I thought I had it bad, whoa, these guys were really experiencing some crazy but real things and they handled them pretty good.

This book read very fast but also it kept my interest piqued the entire time. I really liked this author's way of writing. A fast-moving pace and a great ending.

    Really liked this book

I read this book because I was born and raised in Miami and the writer knows the streets and characters well. I enjoyed his style and I actually came to read this book because I read his other book Semper-Fidelis, about the Marine Corps, which was really good also.

I agree with most of these reviewers. I don't know Miami as well

I agree with most of these reviewers. I don't know Miami as well as some of them appear to but I know an exciting story. I like the quotes at the start of the chapters and the mystery and crime I also think rings true. A good story compared to most of the books I've been reading lately by more well-known authors too.

A borrowed book and a great read

I borrowed this book from a friend while I was at his house and a recent war movie about Vietnam came up because this writer had written about that but Jilly, my friend, didn't have that book. So I read this one, loved it, and bought Semper-Fi-do-or-die, a really great read.

    Check this book out

I've been reading a lot lately and I will say that this short novel compares more than favorably with the rest of those I've read. As a matter of fact I would put it first in line because I like the way the writer uses so descriptive of words and how the pace of the story just seems to keep you reading. The time flies and before you know it its over. I am going to look for more of this author's books. I really like this story snd just wonder how real all of it was.

When I read a book that is set in a place like Miami and the descriptions are so accurate I just keep reading on and on and I didn't regret it at all. I agree with the others that said how fast-moving and action-packed this book was. I loved it.

    I would read this again

A friend of mine loaned me this book and I really enjoyed it. I quickly realized that I had read this writer before; one or two short stories on the Internet and I believe in a book of stories that someone had that was about seven or eight years old. I like all his stuff and will look for more.

Highly recommended to read this book

I read several of Mr. Laufenberg's short stories on the Net and when he gave me the chance to download this book for free, I did and I loved it. It is everything these other readers have stated and more. I read his other book also, even though I usually hate military stories I loved the Marine Corps book, especially the last part when the marines returned to the U.S. from Vietnam and their struggles and tragedies. A really terrific heart-felt story Just marvelous. I loan this book out and several of my friends also really liked it and some of them are apparently reading Mr. Laufenberg's short stories on the Internet.

I recommend this book to all serious readers of mystery and detective stories

I actually read this writer's other book Semper-Fi and loved it so when I came across this one at a bookstore I bought it. It's not as good as his Semper-Fi book about the marine corps but its good and I would recommend it to anyone who likes mysteries and great dialogue.

I read this book this weekend holiday

I actually got this book and Keith Laufenberg's other book about the Marines, Semper-Fi, two months ago at a local book store in Spring Hill where I live half the year with my cousin. Anyway I read this book just this past week-end because I read his other one and loved it. This one was not as good as the Marine book but that's probably because I'm an ex-marine. It really was a good time reading it though and I rate it as high as they go.

A good read that led me to a great read

I bought this book at a garage sale in Tampa ($5 bucks) about three years ago and liked it so much that I searched the Internet for anything else he had written and came up with 'Semper-Fi-do-or-die" a book an ex-gyrene like me couldn't pass up on a bet. Just the cover hooked me. Speaking of covers I read the other Miami Rock with a different cover because that's what the garage sale guy sold to me. It apparently sold out and this is a second edition. Semper-Fi should sell out if you ask me. If you liked this book you should read his other one too,

I rate this book very high and recommend it to all readers

I actually bought this book at a Barnes & Nobles store and got a good deal because I bought like two for one. I got his other book Semper-Fi, which was even better than Miami Rock, for half-price. Ithink this guy writes really good and I read him on the net for free all the time.

    A good reading experience

I actually read this book in 2007 or 2008 just after it came out and have since read his other novel Semper-Fi, a Marine Corps mesmerizer. I have also read about ten of his short stories and he says a publisher is publishing a book of his stories which I am looking forward to. This is a really good book and I have read it twice already.
