Editorial Reviews

The Barnes & Noble Review
Tough-as-nails vampire executioner and necromancer Anita Blake is back and hotter than ever in Laurell K. Hamilton's newest, Micah -- her first Vampire Hunter original paperback release in almost a decade. This stand-alone novel explores the hunky wereleopard Micah's mysterious past and his increasingly intense and complex relationship with Anita.

When one of Anita's friends, federal marshal and fellow necromancer Larry Kirkland, is called away because of a family emergency, Anita is forced to fill in for a reanimation in Philadelphia involving a federal witness who died of a heart attack before he could testify in court. As Anita has an irrational fear of flying, one of Anita's lovers, Micah Callahan -- a lethally attractive wereleopard with mesmerizing chartreuse eyes -- volunteers to accompany her to the City of Brotherly Love for the nocturnal zombie raising. Far away from St. Louis and Anita's bevy of supernatural lovers, she and Micah get to share some intimate one-on-one time with powerfully moving results. After (ahem!) raising a little hell in the hotel room, Anita travels to the Philadelphia cemetery to raise the dead -- only to be faced with her wildest, most unexpected zombie reanimation to date…

Addictively readable and downright erotic, this enlightening glimpse into Micah's past -- and future with his oversexed leopard queen -- will surely be a lip-smacking treat for the millions of ravenous Anita Blake fans. Highly recommended -- as is an ice-cold shower afterward. Paul Goat Allen

I purchased this via ebook for my nook for $6.99 and it only has 101 pages (including title pages, dedication pages, intro)! I've read all the anita blake books up to this point and they are getting worse and worse. the more recent ones were like reading pornos, less vampire and lycanthrope actions and more sex and this ardeur thing. It got to the point where I skip pages and pages of the sex stuff (the way its written gets repeatative and boring). This book actually had more "action" than sex, but then again it was less than a hundred pages of story. I'm disappointed. Lauren Hamilton likes to repeat her lines in each book so when you have a "thin" book, you don't really get anything new. Nothing original in this one...just more blah.

I thought my Nook had not downloaded the whole novel, being as the previous novel was 700 pages. $6.99 plus tax for a short story easily read in an hour? I feel let down. The short story really went no where. There was a little insight into Micah and his life pre Anita... although not much. I want my money back.

While sometimes I think that Hamilton can be long-winded, and could cut back on some of the unnecessary details.....listing this story in the same category as her other novels that are between 400-700 pages is just wrong! I was expecting to get my money's worth! I am very angry at having to pay for a novel and only getting a short story. I feel robbed!

I'll be sure to check the reviews before i buy another ebook. I can't believe they charged 6.99 for 100 pages.

Okay, now I will say that up until this book, I was very happy with the development of the series and with the writing in each book. With this one, however, it was entirely too short and a lot of tricks were used in order to make it look longer than it actually was. I am very unhappy with this, especially since the book was the same price as the rest of the series. Good information and additional items came out of it, but still, it was entirely too short.

It was a decent enough story to keep with the rest of the Anita Blake stories, but was far from worth the money for only about 100 pages. If I had realized how short it was, I would not have spent that much money on it.

This is the last Laurel K. Hamilton book I'll purchase or read. Way too much money for such a short story that wasn't very interesting. And OMG...total overkill on the metaphysical BS and sex!! I like an erotic story as much as the next person but Hamilton has managed to make sex boring! Plus...I can't see any of Anita's "relationships" develop beyond sex. The men in her life aren't appealing and Anita is barely likable. Stick a fork in me; I'm SO done with this series!

It was a decent enough story but should have been added to one of your short story collections. To rip people off by using a larger font, double spacing and adding extra pages then calling it a novel is just lazy and wrong. If you want to read it save your cash and check it out from the library!

Only a 101 pages?! What a rip off. I want my money back on this one, they should not be charging just as much for the other books when this one is so short.

This was a short book comared to Laurell Hamilton's normal books, BUT... the was a necessary book and it gave insight to Micah's past. The series needed a story on Micah!!

My son purchased the first 2 books of the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series for me for Christmas. I am on book 16 of the series, this particular book Micah is worth the read, but not the best book in the series. It's entertaining, the writing is average.

I've been becoming increasingly disappointed with the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series. I started out reading these and loved the story line and character development. However, as the books have gone on and on, they seem to rely on explicit sex scenes for content. After reading this book and the following book, I'm done with the series.

This story was short, but I enjoyed learning about Micah. I think he is one of my favorite characters.I didn't get the concept that anita would be nervous being alone with him. I think that was somewhat of a stretch. I'd reccomend this series to anyone.

I saw that a lot of people left bad reviews for micah and almost did not buy the book but because I have the entire series I felt the need to get this one to and I am glad I did. Maybe some people didn't understand that micah was all about pulling his character together rather then set how the rest of the series was set. The book wasn't as long as I'd have liked but from the beginning micah has been a calm cool character and so his background couldn't be much more then that. I enjoyed getting to know micah better.

Very disappointed. I really wanted to follow this series till the end. But after buying yet another short story ( I thought the last one was short with 700 pages. 100 is just ridiculous.) And reading the reviews for the books to follow, I think it's just time to throw in the towel and find a series worth reading. I also found myself skipping pages and pages of sex because it became so boring to me. At the beginning of the series I kept wondering when she was going to sleep with someone. Now I wish she'd stop....
