Canadian crooner Michael Bublé makes an auspicious debut, showcasing his mellifluous voice and classic-pop sensibilities. The twenty-five year old arrives under the auspices of Paul Anka himself, who helped choose tunes for Michael Bublé, including his own "Put Your Head on My Shoulder." While his smoldering looks and swinging tempos suggest a new-model Harry Connick, Bublé has more pop appeal than the New Orleans heartthrob, offering renditions of songs by the Bee Gees and George Michael. Appearances on the Today show and the daytime soap Days of Our Lives, where he portrayed himself, should draw plenty of eyes -- and ears -- to this young talent.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Aaron Latham
Unlike most young guys who gravitate towards the latest rock or rap trend, Michael Bublé chose to study the classic works of pop vocal masters like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra while slowly developing his own technique and career as a vocal interpreter. Thanks to producer David Foster, the 25-year-old Bublé has graduated to the big time with a self-titled debut disc that shows off his knowledge and appreciation for a style of music that is mostly unfamiliar to his generation. Swinging his way through a set of pop standards both classic ("The Way You Look Tonight"), and more recent ("Moondance"), Bublé already possesses a quality that reaches beyond his youthfulness, with a voice that incorporates his influences into a sound that is fresh yet familiar. When he launches into a standard like "Come Fly With Me," images of Sinatra are conjured up; but as the song progresses, the listener realizes that this is not Sinatra, or Bobby Darin, or any other famous vocalist. It is someone who has learned the art of popular song and is creating his own colorful music from shades of the past. In doing so, Bublé throws a fresh coat of paint on an old standard like "Fever," and gives it a satiny sheen that the song hasn't seen in years. In addition to revitalizing the classics, he draws in a younger audience by covering more recent, rock-era songs in a swinging gloss. Songs like George Michael's "Kissing a Fool" or Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" are jazzed up even further than their retro-based originals, and flow easily alongside the standards. The only interruption comes when Barry Gibb guests on his own "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart," with a reverb-laced vibrato that simply does not fit in this musical environment. Throughout the disc it is apparent that Bublé has done his homework and aced the test, but there is always room for improvement. Sinatra haunts his vocals a bit too much on songs like "Summer Wind," and there are moments throughout the disc when he forces his technique instead of following a natural cadence, but these minor criticisms will improve with time; and nothing can really diminish the sheer pleasure and joy he expresses in each performance. He sounds absolutely thrilled to be singing these songs, and that goes a long way in making Michael Bublé an exciting debut.

Michael Buble' has mastered the art of bringing great music, that has been in hibernation, back to life with a breath of fresh air. The constant combination of great songs and production, excellent musicians, and of course his genuine interpretivie performance, makes this music come to life. Generations old and new are shaking the musical dust off and enjoying some of the best and most memorable music written.

Michael Buble can sing! He has picked a wide range of songs and performs them to perfection. He can do slow romantic songs such as "that's all", fast swinging ones like "come fly with me" and he can rock the joint out with "Crazy little thing called love". Our two year old gets up and dances to it every time he hears it and he makes us join him. Michael Buble is simply the best singer to come out since Elvis.

This cd is so much fun. The songs are classics but Michael's pitch-perfect voice and new charming arrangements give them all fresh appeal. With each track I'm reminded why I've always loved these sentimental melodies. I think Michael does every remake justice by singing with so much energy and joy. This is a keeper!

I bought this cd after watching Bublé on EXTRA lounge last night. Am I ever glad I did. I am certain I have finally found the voice that I've been yearning to hear for so long..... Buble's version of the BeeGees classic 'How Can You Mend a Broken Heart' moved me to tears. And today 'Sway' had us dancing around the office. This is an exceptional cd - the choice of tunes is refreshing - all ages will hear songs they can relate to. It's so nice to hear music like this. My only wish is that there was another 10 songs!

Always feeling out of place with my taste of music at such a young age, Michael Buble has given me a breath of fresh air, and convinced me that the music executives haven't cmpletely fell asleep, and realize what a GREAT vocalist is. Move over Harry Conick, you can't touch this kid!

This kid can swing. This kid can sing. This kid has the 'look' and having seen him perform (he put on fantastic shows) live a few times, I'm convinced that we are witnessing the emergence of a true super-star. I highly recommend this cd for both younger AND older folks as this music will appeal to all. I know it sure did in our family.

What is it with the record business these days? We have Buble copying Sinatra arrangements and vocal styles exactly. He sounds like a Karaoke lounge singer. Can't anybody come out with anything original any more? Buble probably has a nice voice. What does he really sound like? David Foster needs to retire. We don't need another Sinatra. We need new talent.

Really a fine compilation of song. Backed by a fantastic orchestra, Michael Buble' blazes new territory by making some of these newer songs sound older, and the older newer. At first I wasn't sure what to expect, but this cd exceeded even my expectations. Buble' has a style and sound that leave him in a class of his own.... VERY VERY FINE!

When a voice like this keeps these beautiful songs alive, sinatra and all the others who have left us would be proud. Michael does these songs a fantastic justice, and i for one want to thank him for honouring this music with such conviction. he sings from his soul, just as these songs are meant to be sung, he is the next big one to hit our music charts. Keep up the good word Michael...we love your voice. An incredible legacy to this wonderful music and to those who sang them before you. This is a must have for many hours of enjoyable listening

Started listening to clips from the album, and ended up listening to every song. It took me off into a place I haven't enjoyed in a long time... which is a good thing for music (of any kind) to do! Refreshing...

Michael Buble has a rich, smooth voice that's captivating. While I listen to this CD -- over and over again -- I keep thinking of other songs I want him to sing. His rendition of "Fever" and "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" are outstanding. The arrangements are wonderful, the songs are diverse, yet all work together. It's a joy to listen to Michael sing with such passion and style. A must-have CD. Can't wait for the next one.

Just bought it yesterday. Had no idea what I was buying, but knew the song titles and just took a chance. Boy, it was my lucky day. Listened to it on my drive home - loved it; listened to it on my drive back to work. Now, trying to see where I can see this guy perform live!!!
