Michael Jackson: Rolling Stone Commemorative

not much of a tribute

The sections I've read so far in this edition are much more critical of Michael than what I would expect in a tribute to a true humanitarian and legend... an extraordinarly beautiful intelligent person, a great man with a huge soft heart who contributed so much of himself to change the world, gave hundreds of millions to charity, and was loved so deeply and immensely around the globe. If you love Michael Jackson and want a collectors edition that is full of celebration of his life, his one-of-a kind talent, and all the good that he did, I would not buy this one by rs. It is a continuation of much of the junk that brought grief to Michael and his legions of fans. I absolutely loved the One and Only by Triumph Books and Historical Collectors Edition, which had a lot of wonderful information of his successes and heartwearming facts that I had not heard in the media before. But I had read in Historical that rolling stone would not do a cover story of Michael in 1980 because it was thought that black people on the cover won't sell. How ironic. How heartbreaking that people don't understand this beautiful man, his sorrows, and what all he endured in his short life. My daughter bought Unmasked and found it to be a real eye-opener; she read most of it in one day. BTW my 18 year old daughter and I love the last segment of Black and White with the panther, which many people found to be very disturbing. I don't understand such hangups, and I'm a boring cpa. I love Michael and believe with all my heart that he is an Angel in Heaven now. I can imagine him teaching Fred Astaire and Princess Diana to moonwalk now.

Wait for the new ones coming out in the fall...they are more celebratory of Mike

B&N are creating through their own publishing department some books that really have amazing photos and sensitive articles as well as facts...they are a little more human, focusing on the brilliance of the Man/Boy that was Michael Jackson and less on the sensationalism.

Look for them this fall.

why the honor?

I received my printed version of the RSM issue for June 9 thru the 23rd. I was surprised to see an article in it about Michael Jackson's upcoming tour. My point is that after reading the very negative article about Michael Jackson pre-concert, in which he was slammed for not making rehearsals, etc. it was quite ironic and ominous that the article came out before his death.
Typical hypocrisy in that the guy was criticized harshly and negatively before the concert, then the special edition comes out after his death...

I really enjoyed the special commemorative issue for Michael Jackson. I'm sure there will be more in the future as more information and understanding slowly emerges. I loved reading again: Inside The Magical Kingdom by Gerri Hirshey!
To be honest, I had hoped for an article on MJ that was more intellectually stimulating. The psychology etc. of MJ. There is a lot to talk about, and I find it frustrating that a lot of articles leave out MJ's own words, views and beliefs. ( There are some recent, radio interviews and a really amazing speeche at Oxford that no one even mentions.)
In this issue the big disappointment is the article: What Went Wrong by Brian Hiatt. I found it incredibly weak and lazy. Its filled with more than one fiction which made me question anything else he had to report on the subject. I'm terribly tired of reading old news that has already been proven false, as true again. Tabloid junk, especially on MJ, deserves to be researched and exposed for what it is. The public can handle and demands better journalism. If its weird and crazy great, just make sure its true! Its very scary what has happened with paparazzi. They are above the law and are not held accountable for the many lives they can, and have destroyed.
I am truly freaked out by this! Its outrageous! A very ugly time indeed.

Excellent Tribute - One-of-a-Kind

Let me begin by telling you that I read my first issue of RS only 3 days ago.

I always knew RS to be a respected magazine for all things entertainment, but I don't usually buy magazines unless they are commemorative issues on historic people and events. I often find it hard to wade through all the information out there to find the truth on celebrities and their lives. Since Michael Jackson's death, I have scoured the internet and leafed through other magazine titles, searching for reporting that had the ring of truth on such an enigmatic and complicated public figure. I don't need to tell you that there is a lot of crap out there and very little of substance available so the reader might come to their own conclusion on matters. About a week after MJ's death, I decided to browse all possible commemorative issues (People, Macleans, etc.) and make a decision on the one issue I would let myself buy and keep as a souvenir. I saw on your site that you were issuing a commemorative issue and that it was available for pre-order through Barnes & Noble. I figured, since MJ was famous for his music and RS was famous for its role in the music world, that I would take a chance (not having seen the actual issue or ever having read your magazine) and choose RS over all the other available choices.

Thank you for not disappointing me.

I really appreciated the in-depth interviews with a younger MJ, direct quotes from Tarraborelli, Jones, Gordy and others close to MJ and the minimum of personal spin on the King of Pop's unusual lifestyle. Your issue offered me the content (more text than in any other magazine I leafed through) and unique insights from people in Michael's own industry that no other magazine explored; I thoroughly enjoyed reading your work. Thanks for an entertaining, personal, and balanced look at MJ's life and for focusing on the music more than anything.

Rolling Stone Is A Class Act When It Comes To Tributes

From John Lennon, Elvis Presley, Marvin Gaye, George Harrison, John Belushi to Kurt Cobain, you can always rely on Rolling Stone to give a classic send off. Heart felt and really interesting interviews, Jan and the team knows how to blend the life of a particular interview with their peers and fan base the most respectable way. I've been a RS subscriber since 1980 and it is, and always will be, the best publication ever.

Still waiting on my order

I still have not receievd my order. Barnes & Noble said that the Post Office has it, as it was shipped, yet the Post Office has no record of it being there. Where is it???

Don't waste your money on this if your looking for a tribute to MIchael Jackson

This was not a tribute even alittle to Michael Jackson. I read through part of this magazine and was horrified by what Rolling Stones called a tribute. The pictures were alot of older pictures would have really liked to see newer ones. They focused on all the negativity that surrounded Michael Jackson instead of all the good he did. Like all his humanitarian acts none of that was put in the magazine. This was the greatest entertainer that ever lived in my opinion yet this magazine choose to demean Michael Jackson. I just believe this magazine was done in poor taste. I ended up returning my copy of this magazine to Barnes and Nobel. Though if you really want a good magazine that truly pays tribute to Michael Jackson I would get the Ebony tribute magazine that was really worth the money.

very sad that MJ died

The tape last week had almost 100.000 viewers worldwide I am very upset that he died and his kids Blanket Prince Michael and his little girl I forgot her name but I love his thriier video. the first part when he scares the girl when he turns into a zombie it is a little scary but it is cool. I am very upset that Michael Jackson died.

Terrific Memories

This is a wonderful addition to any collection of a Michael Jackson fan, it gives details of his life and music. It is very unbiased and I've enjoyed having it in my collection. I bought one for myself and one for my son and am very glad I did.

i love my magazine!

i love MJ so of course i am biased...when i first got it, i mainly looked at the pictures. the writing in the mag was a little overwhelming but i was able to manage. thanks rolling stone for this awesome cover!

It's a great book of Michael and is put together in a way that is very enjoyable to read and look at. I would definately reccomend this book to my friends.
