Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Italy, Paris, back to Africa and on to Cuba and Key West, Michael Palin's Hemingway Adventure works on many different levels: There's Palin's charm and self-deprecating style. There are his keen insights on life, balanced nicely by pure silliness from time to time...A delightful tragelogue." —The Baltimore Sun

"Palin's prose is spry and insightful, identifying the true warmth felt for Hemingway in these locales...Any trout-fishing, bull-running, wing-shooting Hemingway fan worth his martini shaker should wind this book fun." —Library Journal

I have never read any of Hemingway books, but after reading Michael's book I just might start. It is a great look into Ernest 'Papa' Hemingway and the places he lived in. Michael travels all over starting in Chicago; Oak Park to be exact where he was born. Then it's on to Michigan where he spent his summer vacations. The other places he goes to include Spain, Africa, Italy, and Paris. One thing I loved about this book is how Michael attempted to live how Hemingway did by trying some of his hobbies which was fishing and hunting. Of course Michael's sense of humor makes the book a real pleasure to read. The pictures by Basil Pao are so beautiful and really capture the mood. I have the video also and it is a lot of fun to watch. In my opinion even if you are not an Hemingway fan, some of the places he lived do make very nice vacation spots. I have to confess my favorite picture in the book is Michael looking over the Chicago skyline. I live near Chicago. So if you are a Michael Palin fan you will not be disappointed with this book.

Once again Micheal Palin presents an excellent adventure, both on video and the book. Although I think this book stands out as the best of his series, not just as a companion to his video but stands alone as as a book of its own. Fantastic reading
