To everyone at Meridian High School, fourteen-year-old Michael Vey is nothing special, just the kid who has Tourette’s syndrome. But in truth, Michael is extremely special—he has electric powers. Michael thinks he is unique until he discovers that a cheerleader named Taylor has the same mysterious powers. With the help of Michael’s friend, Ostin, the three of them set out to discover how Michael and Taylor ended up with their abilities, and their investigation soon brings them to the attention of a powerful group who wants to control the electric teens—and through them, the world.
#1 New York Times bestselling author Richard Paul Evans introduces a character whose risk-filled exploration marks the beginning of a riveting new series. With only his powers, his wits, and his friends to protect him, Michael will need all his strength to survive….
Michael Vey is the first title in Glenn Beck’s Mercury Ink publishing program.

Chopsticks and Spiders
“Have you found the last two?” The voice on the phone was angry and coarse, like the sound of car tires over broken glass.
“Not yet,” the well-dressed man on the other end of the phone replied. “Not yet. But we believe we’re close—and they still don’t know that we’re hunting them.”
“You believe you’re close?”
“They’re two children among a billion—finding them is like finding a lost chopstick in China.”
“Is that what you want me to tell the board?”
“Remind the board that I’ve already found fifteen of the seventeen children. I’ve put out a million-dollar bounty on the last two, we’ve got spiders crawling the Web, and we have a whole team of investigators scanning global records for their whereabouts. It’s just a matter of time before we find them—or they step into one of our traps.”
“Time isn’t on our side,” the voice returned sharply. “Those kids are already too old. You know how difficult they are to turn at this age.”
“I know better than anyone,” the well-dressed man said, tapping his ruby-capped pen on his desk. “But I have my ways. And if they don’t turn, there’s always Cell 25.”
There was a long pause, then the voice on the phone replied darkly, “Yes. There’s always Cell 25.”

As a dad, I'm thankful to find a great read with a clear good vs. evil plot without all the popular "potter-bluring-of-morals-type-magic" or extreme youth horror, or potty humour. It is a refreshing new character series with lots of page-turning suspence without resorying to yhosr

I really loved this story and how the author manipulated each character. Did not know that electricity could be used in so many ways.

I saw this book in Comic-Con 2011, and I already was interested. Bought this ebook the same day it came out and 12 hours later, I finished it. A great lead actor and good cast of secondary characters, especially his friends. The villian somewhat cliched, but still a good villian. In all, this was an awesome novel and the great start to this new series. Can't wait for the next one.

Fantastic book for both young adults and old adults. Filled with action and addresses positive values such as not judging a person solely on looks or status.

As a HUGE fan of Richard Paul Evans, I had HIGH expectations for this book. Boy, did he deliver. If you love to read, this is your next summer read (and tell all of your friends or choose it as your next book club selection)! If you read occasionally, find the time and get this book. If you never read books, please change and pick this one up. You won't regret it!
The best way to describe it comes from the michael vey website:
"Michael Vey, The Prisoner of Cell 25 is the first book in a seven-book series by #1 bestselling author Richard Paul Evans. At a time when the YA (Young Adult) genre is flooded with increasingly darker and hostile themes, Michael Vey is an adventure story about hope, loyalty, courage and a son's love for his mother. With strong, likeable characters, genuinely realistic and frightening villains and "high energy" tension, Michael Vey is a series that will resonate with youths and adults alike."

... as this book has kept me up until 2am because I could not set it down until the end. And now I'm itching for the next one. Excellent read throughout. Not a cookie cutter branch off like most new books these days. Great read for young and old alike.
