More About This Book

Overview

Life may imitate art...but death follows it.

While studying art history at New York University, brilliant and beautiful Finn Ryan makes a startling discovery: a Michelangelo drawing of a dissected corpse-supposedly from the artist's near-mythical notebook. But that very night, someone breaks into her apartment-murdering her boyfriend and stealing the sketches she made of the drawing. Fleeing for her life, Finn heads to the address her mother had given her for emergencies, where she finds the enigmatic antiquarian book dealer, Michael Valentine. Together, they embark on a desperate race through the city-and through the pages of history itself-to expose an electrifying secret from the final days of World War II-a secret that lies in the dark labyrinthine heart of the Vatican.

    Meh

This book had a lot of promise, but in the end just wasn't written well enough to be very good. Finn is clearly the star of the book, but she was poorly developed and for someone supposedly careful about sex, she used her sexuality far too much in the book. There was also far too much jumping around, the author never stuck with one set of characters for more than a chapter. I will give the author another read to see if he improves his writing. There is promise here, hopefully the author can grow.

Looking for 350 pages of boredom? Step right up.

I was expecting a lot from this book. When I read the synopsis on the back, I was actually excited about reading it. 'Hmm,' I thought 'Suspense and art history. Sounds good.' Well, what I actually got was a thinly disguised Dan Brown knock-off. Renaissance art? Check. Papal intrigue? Check. Young-and-hot-but-smart-and-fiery-woman-working-with-and-trying-to-sup ress-desire-for-older-smart-well-rounded-save-the-day-type-of-man? Check. Now, this alone wouldn't be enough to get me to put this book down. I mean, if Mr. Christopher wants to closely follow someone else's plots, that's his prerogative. However, towards the end, so many characters got introduced, and the plot became so hard to follow that I'd sit there and read the same passage 5 or 6 times and still not come away with a slight sense of what had just happened. Don't waste your $7.99 on this book. Check out 'Da Vinci Code' or 'Angels and Demons' instead.

    Someone New on the Horizon

Well written, kept me reading right through to the end. Lots of art and WW11 info, let's hear more from Mr. Christopher.

    Interesting premise, but light.

A good enough read while waiting for the next five star to come along. Stolen art and Papal intrique make for an interesting plot. Great scene development but the end just gets interesting when poof, it's over. The characters were believable, especially Finn, but while many questions were raised about Valentines background, none were answered. This could have been a contender.

    Boring

Michelangelo's Notebook sounded great to me as something that might lead me into the subject in the books by Dan Brown. However, I found myself bored because of a confusing plot and the introducing of too many characters. This book also came to an abrupt end that didn't make sense. While reading, I never wanted to get to the next page. I was occaisionally wondering how one event led to the next. If you are looking for an art/suspense thriller, skip this and go straight to Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

    Excellent

Full of twists and turns, really enjoy mystery/suspense stories that have a basis in history. If you liked Angels and Demons, you will like this book.

    NOT a must-read

I picked up this book on a whim because it looked like it might follow the same kind of subject as Dan Brown's work. While the novel starts well enough, it becomes hard to follow towards the end. Too many characters and not enough plot. About the best I can say is: Leave the art/suspense thrillers to Dan Brown, Mr. Christopher.

    Interesting read

I read this book as a follow up to The DaVinci Code, trying to find another novel packed with excitement and amazing art history to keep me going. While not concerning Michelangelo's notebook or Renaissance history as much as I had hoped, the plot deals more with the Nazi capturing of a secret unknown child, stolen priceless works of art, and murder. Christopher does a wonderful job at his description of the settings, especially the flashbacks. The characters are very well written and easy to attach yourself to, especially Finn, a twenty-something NYU art history student who wants nothing more than to lead an interesting life. The book has several twists and turns that keep you interested, while trying to figure out connections until the last page.
