At the beginning of each park description is an at-a-glance reference showing symbols for all the accommodations and activities available. A map on the back cover provides the location of all the parks making it easy to find nearby attractions. For campers with specific interests, a quick-reference appendix lists all the parks, accommodations, and activities on an easy-to-read chart. This is an essential guide for anyone from the curious outdoorsman to the serious camper. This fifth edition includes new and updated campground and park maps.

This is the new (5th) edition of the book, updated in 2014. Every state park in Michigan is listed in the book with accommodations, activities, a one or two page description of the park, and nearly every park includes a map. Most of the parks that have campground facilities also have maps showing site-specific, numbered locations that correspond to the DNR's online reservation system. A chart at the back of the book lists all the parks and the activities & accommodations available at each, which makes this an excellent reference in choosing a park and campsite that has the amenities you want. The guide is organized geographically, so if you're the type of person who doesn't make reservations and can't find a place to park your camper, you can easily find another park nearby just by turning to the previous or next park in the book. The book is 7 x 10, so it's a bit larger than your average book (which is great for the maps) but still small enough to keep in your glove box. You won't find a better book about Michigan's State Parks than this.
This book is very informative and helpful in choosing State Parks for camping. Lists all the features at each camp and has maps of the campground layout. Also gives a detailed written description of each State Park. Gives directions and phone numbers. Has easy to read symbols on each campground map to indicate what is available at each campgrounds, such as boat ramps, hiking trails, bike trails, picnic areas etc. I was, however, looking for an updated version of this book as most of the State Parks are taking Site Specific reservations only now-meaning you choose the actual campsite you wish to camp on. Also a number of the campgrounds we have visited in the past couple years are building additional restroom/shower facilities and updating their electrical services. However, the book I have currently is still very helpful. But to see specific site numbered maps you must do so online. Some of the maps in the book may vary slightly from what is shown in the book as far as restroom buildings.
