Maybe you play Age of Empires to learn about the Assyrians and Yamato, or Caesar and Hannibal. Or maybe you just like to zap folks with catapults. Either way, AOE and Rise of Rome Expansion Pack are endlessly fascinating, and the better you get, the more fascinating they get. Age of Empires: Inside Moves, Revised and Expanded Edition is a great guide to getting better fast.
This new edition covers the best strategies that have evolved for both the original AOE and Rise of Rome as thousands of players have become proficient. You'll move beyond the original archer rush strategies to Bronze Age Invasion strategies and even more sophisticated approaches. You'll master civilization building, personnel management, and battle tactics, and walk through every AOE mission each one annotated with extra hints and warnings about sure-loser strategies to avoid.
Humans are still a tad smarter than algorithms, so even after you've more or less mastered one-person AOE, there's a lot to learn about multiplayer. The book's new, revised edition interviews several top web Agers, folks like John Romero (on how important it is to start fast and get to Bronze fast); Duncan McKissick ("When I hit Bronze, I build two of everything... two markets, two government centers... at least six stables..."); Robert Howg ("Cavalry tend to head for one particular chariot. Once you see which chariot they're heading for, peel it off from the back of the pack. The cavalry will follow it around while your archers continue shooting them...") There's an appendix full ofcheatcodes and easter eggs; and another one on building your own scenarios (not as tough as you might think.)
P.S.: Now's the time to sharpen your skills so you'll be ready for Age of Empires II this fall! Review by Bill Camarda (Contributing Editor)
