Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
We’ve never seen a book that will be more useful to the working Windows Server 2003 administrator. Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Insider Solutions isn’t just smart; it’s remarkably well focused on the realities of administering large Windows networks.

This isn’t just “click here, check that box.” The authors take a far broader view of what you need to accomplish. For example, in an excellent chapter on wireless security, they point out that you can eliminate many man-in-the-middle attacks by placing your access points near the middle of your building’s structure. And speaking of security, this is among the first books we’ve seen that does justice to Microsoft’s new Smartcard support.

Windows Server 2003 makes it possible to distribute administration tasks granularly. But with those new options, you face important decisions about how to organize administration. This book helps you choose the most practical, cost-effective, and secure administrative model for your environment.

In addition to security, management, and administration, the authors thoroughly cover design, implementation, migration, integration, remote/mobile users, business continuity, and performance optimization. And you can tell from the details that these authors have extensive experience running Windows Server 2003 in production environments.

Maybe they found out the hard way that old Terminal Services clients don’t support Windows Server’s default encryption level. Or that DHCP can potentially “steal” valid clients from a production network. Or that you’d better be really cautious about using cross-forest trusts. It doesn’t matter how they learned this stuff: What matters is how well they’ve shared it with you. Bill Camarda
