Overview

Jack Delvaux is alive

Summer Redding thought the blindingly handsome jock who'd loved and left her years ago had died in the Washington Massacre. She grieved for her lost golden boy as the rest of the country mourned their dead—until she comes home to find a very alive Jack Delvaux waiting for her with a devastating secret that turns her life upside down.

No longer the carefree man he was in his youth, this Jack is dark, hard and dangerous; a fifteen-year veteran of the CIA hungry for answers…and hungry for her. The rich, good-looking charmer who broke her heart once before would have been easy to resist, but this man, this powerful man? Summer needs him, and he knows it.

When Jack's mission uncovers evidence of government involvement in the Massacre—and plans for another attack—he's primed for revenge. But he has more than vengeance to live for now, and when Summer's life is threatened, it's nearly Jack's undoing. Someone taking shots at his woman? That's a dead man walking.

Little hard to start reading because he was such horndog in their past by sleeping with her and then ditching her for her roommate yet she still wanted him. I have never been able to put a Lisa Marie Rice book down before but i was able to walk away from that book until i had nothing else to read and i finished it. Okay read but missing that spark i usually love. Maybe because he ditched her and never thought of her again until.it was forced on him but i am giving this a three stars.

I was thoroughly entertained. Reviewed by Gemini As far as conspiracy theories go, Midnight Fire tackles several of them head on. It depicts the successful launch of several terrorist attacks on the United States over the course of several months. Those attacks are believed to have been launched by several traitors within the CIA. Of course, every book needs a hero and the hero in this story is Jack Delvaux and he is supposed to be dead. He is also a member of the CIA himself. Unfortunately for Jack, his family becomes a victim of one of the attacks. As he is working in the shadows to get justice, he stumbles upon an old flame, Summer Redding. Summer is a successful political blogger. In order to stop her from revealing his secret and keep her safe, Jack has to get her involved in his secret investigation. There was a lot to like about this book. The hero and heroine are very likeable and the political musings are very relevant. The fact that Jack and Summer have a history that spans over 15 years makes it a little difficult to believe that they fall back into a rhythm so quickly. Neither of them is the same person that they were back then so I expected a little more playing hard to get. Sure, the romance has to move at a certain pace but considering the serious subject matter, I would have liked a little more realism. I know that they have to hook up at some point but it could have taken a few more days for them to get between the sheets. But when they do get between the sheets, they set the world on fire. While the plot against the U.S. was intriguing, I was equally intrigued by Summer’s backstory. She was raised by drug-addicted parents that still managed to travel around the world. How does that happen? Summer is a strong woman and I couldn’t help but hope she survived the continued threats to her life. Jack may have been fueled by vengeance but it’s easy to see that it’s his heart that makes him a great hero. I didn’t realize it at first but Midnight Fire is part of a series. Consequently, it can be read as a stand-alone. There’s a lot more mystery and suspense to this book than I mentioned but if I did, I would spoil it for you. Just know that when the CIA and FBI are involved, it’s very difficult to determine who to trust. I was thoroughly entertained. **Received a copy from Carina Press in exchange for an honest unbiased opinion.**

Summer Redding is proud of her blog, Area 8. She has uncovered scandal and corruption before, but now she has the chance for the story of a lifetime. The Washington Massacre, which wiped out the Delvaux family, had almost brought the country to its knees. What would happen if she revealed that Jack Delvaux was alive and hunting for the people responsible? Summer is an interesting and intelligent character. She has endured so much in her life. Her parents were careless and uncaring. Jack was a former lover who broke her heart. Can they work together and make a life? She loves her country and will risk everything to reveal who is behind this deadly plot to harm it. Summer and Jack are an unstoppable pair. Jack is driven by hate. These traitors destroyed his family and they will pay. His pain broke my heart. I loved watching him come alive as he fell in love with Summer. This story is amazing. It's filled with suspense, intrigue and violence. I wanted justice to triumph. Lisa Marie Rice's Men of Midnight is a powerful series. I was hooked from the first page.

I've really been enjoying this series and I've been anxiously waiting since knowing from the last book that Jack is still alive. Like the previous books in this series, this was fast paced and filled with actions. My tiny country of Singapore was mentioned. I'm not sure if fictitious flight numbers were written intentionally for legal purposes and if it wasn't, the abbreviation for Singapore Airlines was incorrect. Summer Redding was a pleasant surprise and definitely a fitting character for Jack. The suspense was well written although I wish Lisa Marie Rice had gone more in depth about the villains especially after all so many people died because of them. I felt there wasn't any closure to the Massacre and the ending felt a little abrupt. All in all, I enjoyed the book and look forward to the next one in this series. Hopefully FBI Nick will get his story. ARC given by the author in exchange for a honest review.

I loved Midnight Fire. As with the rest of the Men of Midnight series, it was fast paced but well written. After reading the last book Midnight Secrets and knowing that Isabel's brother Jack was not killed in the Washington Massacre, I had been eager for Jack's story and couldn't wait to find out how he had survived the massacre. I love both Jack and Summer's characters and love how the story evolved. One thing I do agree with one of the other reviewers - I wish Lisa had gone more in depth with the villains in the story. Regardless, I did really enjoy the story and can't wait for more of the Men of Midnight books.

In Midnight Fire by Lisa Marie Rice, I was quickly submersed into a world of intrigue, political corruption, and an unexpected second chance. This series is superb, and Midnight Fire is no exception. Midnight Fire easily picks up a plot thread from the conclusion of Midnight Secrets, and takes us into Jacks' world. Jack is supposed to be dead, but when Summer recognizes him and finds out his story, she is drawn into an evil side of the world right along with him. Summer and Jack have an old history together, but it's one Summer has never forgotten. It took her a long time to get over Jack, and she is determined not to be drawn to him again. Soon they are racing against time together to stop a plot that will destroy everything they know... And as this is happening, Summer is seeing the man Jack is now, not the young man he was all those years ago. Things start to heat up quickly when not only do they recognize the feelings they both have, but suddenly they both find themselves in imminent danger. Jack will do whatever he can to not only stop the terror, but to protect Summer. Will they be able to? Will they get that second chance? Jack and Summer are a powerful hero and heroine, and they make Midnight Fire an exciting read. Summer and Jack have a past together, and they are brought together again in Midnight Fire. I liked the maturity of both of them and how they dealt with things, from their relationship to the events taking place in Midnight Fire. They are a realistic couple, and the big bumps in the road of their relationship are realistic after what they had in the past. I liked seeing Jack today, and reading about the changes in him through Summer's eyes. He is edgy, a bit dark, intense, and a man on a mission! Summer is just as determined as Jack to do right, and the adventure the two of them are on is heart stopping. I felt like Summer and Jack could be a good couple, they seemed to balance each other well - the chemistry and feelings are definitely there! I liked the dual POV's that Lisa Marie writes with in Midnight Fire, this gives a well rounded perspective of what is happening through out Midnight Fire. Midnight Fire is very suspenseful. I didn't have a clue about the enormity of the plot or what could potentially happen right away, and this created a fantastic build up, amping up the anticipation of what's to come. It is the type of plot that you don't see coming and there is the feeling that something like this could really happening, so the little niggle of fear sure gets the heart pumping! I liked how Lisa Marie created a strong suspenseful plot along side a strong second chance romance. It is a good blend, especially with these characters. Summer and Jack are definitely the main characters in this book. You will see characters occasionally from other books in the Men of Midnight series, and I would recommend reading at least Midnight Secrets (#3) prior to Midnight Fire since we meet Jack's sister and see some of Jack in Midnight Fire. Very well paced with a captivating plot, I'd recommend Midnight Fire to any romantic suspense reader.

This story is standalone (the 4th in the Men of Midnight series) but continues right where book 3, Midnight Secrets left off. If you haven't read that one, you'll get the information you need to be comfortable reading this one, but I highly recommend reading book 3 first if you are stickler for reading things in order, as this one reveals some of the secrets of book 3. I really enjoyed reading Jack and Summer's story. Jack has changed from the man that Summer knew, the golden boy who lived a privileged existence, including when they knew each other in college and his love 'em and leave 'em reputation was well earned and broke her heart. Horrendous events that have occurred, the massacre of his family in a political assassination have changed him irrevocably into a hard edged and serious man, intent on finding the men responsible for the massacre. Summer's reputation as a political blogger and her recent reunion with Jack whom she is shocked to find is still alive have made her a target and Jack is willing to do anything to protect her. I loved the two of them together, their relationship swiftly moving from a sexual one to one with deeper emotions. Aside from the romance though, I found this story to be action packed and a thrill ride from the start. It's a page turner, combining espionage and politics as Jack and Summer race to find the answers before they are hunted down themselves. 4.5 stars for this excellent read.
