Wow!! I was absolutely blown away by this book! It's going to be very difficult for me to write this review without giving away a few spoilers, but I'll try my best.
From page one it was clear that something wasn't quite right in the town of West Windington, but what ensued was so far from what I'd been expecting and it was amazing! Strangers in blue Toyotas stalking college girls, scary guys in black Broncos killing people, kidnapping, evil minion cops, Vampires and other Underworld characters, soul selling and eternal love. Yup, this book delivers all of this and so much more.
The characters were exciting, each in their own way and so well defined that I almost expected them to walk right off the page and into my life! It would have made my year if the delicious, Hunter, had! *sigh* Donna is one lucky girl! I loved how the multitude of personalities played off each other, even those with hate/hate relationships. I particularly enjoyed Mo, she's a bit crazy but with good intentions. She constantly proved what a great friend she was, even going so far as nearly staking her best friend's boyfriend.
Although the idea of "reincarnation" and eternal love is something I've read about before, the story behind Donna and Hunter's love was unique. Their relationship heated up pretty quickly but it was clear why it was so easy for them to connect, or should that be reconnect? I especially loved the explination Hunter gave Donna about how he re-awakens. It was an awww moment for me and it made their love all the more special. Their relationship felt real and it certainly wasn't one of perfection. It was great to see a female MC stand up for herself against the "man" she loves. She fought back when his anger flared (please don't take that the wrong way, Hunter never abused Donna!!) and never once allowed him to control her, even if it resulted in a brush with death.
This book also had plenty of terrifying characters and situations to balance the romance. Stephen, the evil brother out for revenge. He was wicked through and through and his hate drove him to wreak havoc. He was merciless and determined for history to repeat itself. Although he didn't feature prominently in the book, there was always the sense that he was lurking in the shadows ready to pounce!
So there you have it. Again, let me say WOW!! This book could have easily become predictable or just another Vampire story, but it wasn't. Bonnie Bernard is an amazingly talented writer, and I am delighted to be diving straight into book 2 of this series. The ending held so much excitement and promise for what's to come and I can't wait to see what lies ahead for all involved!

A Lovely Blend of Tradition and Innovation - 4.2/5 stars
Plot: 4/5 stars
I loved the set-up for this story and, despite thinking I had the ending all figured out from the beginning, was happy to devour every word. As it turned out, I didn't have the ending figured out at all but, for the first time, that was because I was expecting a bigger plot twist than what I received which is why I am giving this part of the review 4 stars rather than 5. It was a great story - but it didn't particularly surprise me.
Characters: 4/5 stars
Your main character is a seemingly pretty but otherwise plain-Jane who will inevitably become the super hero of the series. Her best friend is a quirky, spunky, off beat girl with crazy spiky hair. Her leading man is insanely delicious, broody, and - at times - dramatic. Yes, Twilight fans, if it sounds familiar to you I do understand. HOWEVER, the characters were well-written, believable, likeable, and extremely entertaining!
Writing: 5/5 stars
In the beginning the impression that I got was that the writing was unpolished but, as I read, I realized that this author just has an exceptionally unique style and the more I read the more it worked for me. It's not conventional, but it's extremely effective! Her tone and pacing makes the funny quirks in her characters even funnier and quirkier and by the end of the book it was like crack. I laughed, literally, out-loud so many times while reading this book!
Formatting/Editing: 5/5 stars
Either the self-proclaimed typo-nanny was too engrossed in the story to notice or there wasn't a single, solitary typo in this entire book. HOLY CRAP! That's so rare and Awesome!!!
Originality: 3/5 stars
So the centuries old male vampire that can read thoughts and drives a Ferrari is madly and eternally in love with the innocent and blissfully ignorant human girl who drives an old red vehicle. BUT WAIT A MINUTE!! Once you can get past the Twilightian similarities, and you should, you get to enjoy the unique elements of the book that blend a refreshing concoction of traditional vampire lore (like turning to dust from sunlight, for example) with unique and fun concepts like magical stakes, a complete lack of even basic culinary common-sense (HILARIOUS), and the idea that MOST vampires are generally good and it is the minority that goes insane and becomes blood sucking monsters. Love it!

I was given this book by the Author for giving an honest review of it.
I couldn't put it down! It was nice to start off with a book dealing with mainly adult characters and adult situations. And it is a good thing it is a trilogy as there are a lot of twists and turns in this first book that you know are going to continue in another! Bring on book 2!
I love how the Author creates a setting that could be any small town in New England and turns it into a hive of literally thousands of Underworld inhabitants who just happen to live right next door without mortal humans even being aware that they are there! From shopkeepers, to Guidance counselors, from the Mayor to even your old room mate... who knew? You have a touch of Romance that has lasted centuries, a reuniting of old family, a blood feud, and even your nightmares come alive. Yes it can be a bit damsel in distress kind of a story, but who doesn't like it when a strong, sexy alpha male shows up to save the day? But guess what... the twist is he isn't the only one who saves the damsel! That is what best friends are for too! So anyone looking for a great read that has just enough of everything to fulfill your needs... romance, paranormal, mystery, Sci-Fy... then this is a definite book for you!

The Midnight Hunter
This story is about a woman who meets a vampire who turns out to be her eternal partner. Very good story except I just did not like Donna. There was just something about her I found very annoying. I loved her best friend Mo, she just was a spunky woman who I guess I relate better too. Hunter was ok, a little odd in my opinion even for a vampire. I think everyone will love the other vampires, Trent and Dante though. It was a very good story that I think as the series continues will even get better. I was not as hooked with this one as I would have liked but that could be because I just did not like Donna, or her mother! I cannot wait to read the next book and see what happens next cause well I know it is going to be good.
"I have received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review"

I'm generally not a fan of the vampire genre, but I'm definitely a fan of Bonnie Bernard's "The Midnight Hunter" series. It's a unique, fast-paced, character-driven take on the underworld. In Book 1, "Midnight Hunter," unsuspecting Donna McCormick thinks she's a normal college student, but discovers she's not. Almost nothing in her world is what she thought it was, and she's not going to survive for long if she doesn't figure out who the bad guys are. If you love interesting tales about good versus evil with characters you care about, then you'll enjoy these books. Each book is better than the next, and then there's Howie, the most intriguing character I've come across in a long time! Howie alone would be worth the read, but there's much, much more to love about this trilogy. Read it! You'll love it!Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I purchased this book in print directly from the author so I could have a signed copy. I've heard about Bonnie Bernard, but this was my first chance to actually read something she wrote. WOW!!! I started and finished it in a little over 24 hours. Not because it was so short...simply because I could not put it down. If you are looking for a fast paced, action packed read, you need this book. I've already started the second in the series and I'm expecting to go through it just as quickly. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. My review of Midnight Hunter book 1
By Bonnie Bernard
Rating 4 stars
Donna is just a few days from her 21st birthday. Unfortunately she recently lost her job and now has to move back home. Weirdly enough, she has began to have some of the creepiest nightmares ever. As she begins her senior year of college het whole world begins to change. The only constant she has is that her always witty and beyond crazy best friend Mo.
Soon Donna finds herself unexplainably drawn to Hunter. He is a long tall drink of water on legs. He also carries around son deep and dark secrets which Donna is set on finding. This book is wonderfully romantic, eerie and inspirational all at the same time. As Donna goes in this journey she learns strength at the same time. The prophetic nigjmares really creeped me out, in a good way LOL.
The author has action without being overly busy. It is well written in believable situations that play out in unsuspecting ways. I have to read book 2 now just to see where this story goes......cause theres this little girl curious. A hands down thrill ride for sure!!!!

This book was an enjoyable read. The story line and characters flowed nicely. Mo was my favorite character in the story. There was so much to offer in this book. Vampires, shocking surprises, action, and humor.Donna is a college girl who meets a guy named Hunter. He has an arch enemy that will stop at nothing trying to kill Donna, but there's a twist, Hunter is a vampire. Kinda crazy..LOL A vampire trying to keep a girl safe and not wanting to kill her. Donna finds out why Hunter's arc enemy wants her dead and why Hunter is willing to go to such lengths to keep her safe. Find out what happens in this thrill ride adventure.. This was a gift from the author. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

I was given this book from the author herself to give an honest review! I honestly loved, this book.
Mo kept me laughing from the beginning with everything that came out of her mouth. Vampires, and minions, and underworld things are all in this book.
I truly enjoyed reading about each character in their own little way. Though Hunter made me a little upset at times only because of the way he acts. When I Bonnie threw in the unexpected I was like WHAT oh wow. Can not wait to read in book 2 how this is going to turn out. I do have to say Mo is one of my favorite characters in this book because she speaks her mind and she doesn't care who it offends or what is said. She dresses in her own way and doesn't care about other's opinions. Now being pregnant myself I crave a lot of what Mo craves lol. And with the reference of chocolate chip cookies crumbled up underneath a banana, and I believe drizzled with chocolate syrup. Oh my that just sounded delicious. Thank you Bonnie for that hunger moment for me. :D
Midnight Hunter is about a young woman name Donna who is in danger. She dreams of a man who wants her dead. Now she is thrust into an unknown world to her since she has no recollection of her previous lives. She is learning all sorts of things of what is going on around her. She meets a man name Hunter who wants to protect her, and in the midst of it all not what he seems. If you enjoy action, some suspense, the paranormal then this is the book for you. I honestly bet you will not be disappointed I know I sure was not.

Loved this book! It is the first book of The Midnight Hunter Trilogy. I loved how the book flowed and how I felt a connection with each of the characters. I love Donna, but my favorite character is her loud mouthed, attitude filled bff. You have to read the book to appreciated Mo, she keeps Donna on her toes. Donna has always wanted a normal life, unfortunately for her, fate had other plans. She has two men in her life, one that would die for her and one that loves her to "death". Welcome to Donna's world, a human world mixed up with the chaos of the underworld. A world with vampires, minions, demons, the good, the bad, the ugly, and the drop dead gorgeous. What all does fate have in store for Donna? Well, you will just have to read the book and find out for yourself, you wouldn't believe me if I told you. I recommend this book to all the paranormal lovers that crave a read that has you biting your nails and hanging from the edge of your seat. I can't wait to read the next book to find out what twists the author comes up with next.

Bonnie Bernard did a wonderful job writing this book, it is captivating and intriguing. Midnight Hunter will defiantly leave you wanting more!
Donna McCormick just wanted a normal life, after her little brother was killed in a car accent while she was watching him 8 years ago. Her 21st birthday is one week away; she's currently a college student and is returning home after living on her own for a while. Donna is being pursued in her dreams by a man who claims to be her Eternal Partner. During her waking hours, she's cornered by another who claims to be the same. There's only one problem: neither is entirely honest, or human.. One will try to save her and one will try to kill her, but which one? With death following Donna like a shadow, she turns to her best friend Mo for help. But Mo is a mystery also how does she know so much about the Underworld? Things start to unravel pretty quick and people who you thought where just normal people are not who they appear to be..
Donna must choose, either the mortal world where she so desperately wants a normal life or or embrace the Underworld where her dreams haunt her and nightmares come true. But where she also finds love. Doing either one might get her killed in both.
