She Sought Revenge But Discovered Desire.

On a quest to avenge her sister's death, Eleanor Watkins never expected to fall for the man following her through pleasure gardens and into ballrooms. But soon nothing can keep her from the arms of the sinfully attractive scoundrel, not even the dangerous secrets she keeps. Strong, compassionate, and utterly irresistible, James is all she desires. But can she trust him enough to let herself succumb to all the pleasures that midnight allows?

James Swindler has worked hard to atone for his unsavory past. He is now as at home in London's glittering salons as he is in the roughest streets. But when the inspector is tasked with keeping watch on a mysterious lady suspected of nefarious deeds, he is determined to use his skills at seduction to lure Eleanor into revealing her plans. Instead, he is the one seduced, turning away from everything he holds dear in order to protect her—no matter the cost to his heart.

Meet the Author

Lorraine Heath always dreamed of being a writer. After graduating from the University of Texas, she wrote training manuals, press releases for a publicist, articles, and computer code, but something was always missing. In 1990, she read a romance novel and not only became hooked on the genre, but quickly realized what her writing lacked: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues. She's been writing about them ever since. Her work has been recognized with numerous industry awards, including RWA's RITA®, a HOLT Medallion, and a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award. Her novels have appeared on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists.

ans will relish Lorraine Heath's strong Victorian romantic suspense with a clever twist

In 1852 Inspector James Swindler is happy that his friends from Fagin's gang of youths have moved on with their lives. He still struggles to do likewise. His current assignment is to trail Eleanor Watkins who has come to London to most likely commit murder.

Still grieving the death of her sister Elisabeth who came to London for the season last year with the naive joy of the innocent until Lord Rockberry destroyed her; Eleanor has plans to kill the culprit. James rescues her from three aristocrats in the pleasure gardens of Cremorne with hopes to persuade her not to travel the path she has chosen for herself. As they fall in love, neither expected the mounting danger from a diabolical schemer.

The latest Scoundrels of St. James series (see IN BED WITH THE DEVIL, BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND DESIRE and SURRENDER TO THE DEVIL), continues the great saga of what happened as adults to Fagan's gang of youngsters from Oliver Twist. The story line is fast-paced from the moment that James intercedes at Cremorne and never slows down although she hides something critical from him and he struggles to overcome the public hanging of his father when he was a child. With a nasty villain and an enjoyable mystery, fans will relish Lorraine Heath's strong Victorian romantic suspense with a clever twist.

Not worth reading. I am a huge Lorraine Heath fan and loved all

Not worth reading. I am a huge Lorraine Heath fan and loved all the books about Feagan's kids but not this one. I hesitated buying it to begin with because I didn't really like James Swindler in the other books. He really turned me off in Frannie's book when he had sex with a woman in Doger's club so Frannie could watch how great he was at making love to women. This didn't start out very exciting and was not very exciting to read.

A must read if you have read others in series

A great book. Didn't realize it was part of a series when I got it, but had read some in the series and liked them as well.
    Enjoyed it a bunch.

    Heath has done it again!

Lorraine Heath brings such passion and depth to a story, and MIDNIGHT PLEASURES WITH a SCOUNDREL is the latest installment in a series of connected books. I've loved every story, and this one ranks just as high!
