Kennedy’s fourth Killer Instincts romantic thriller (after Midnight Games) is a gripping and pulse-pounding tale. Juliet Mason, a professional thief turned contract killer, gets in deep trouble while on a personal mission seeking out her brother’s killer in Belarus. Her call for help is answered by Ethan Hayes, a very sexy, gentlemanly mercenary. He soon finds himself at odds with the impulsive Juliet over both the mission and their sexual attraction. To Juliet, it’s just sex and will end when the mission is over; to Ethan it’s the beginning of a relationship. The mission grows in complexity, and Ethan and Juliet get more in sync, both in the field and in the bedroom. Secondary characters add to the suspense and charm of the story, and series fans will be surprised by some twists in the ongoing drama between operatives Noelle and Jim. First-class adventure, passionate desire, and fierce characters make this a very satisfying page-turner. (Apr.)

Elle Kennedy brings readers the fourth book in her Killer Instincts series, Midnight Pursuits. This is an action packed story with moments of levity and some serious romance. The intense chemistry between the hero and heroine is undeniable. Kennedy knows when to ramp up the romance and when to let action take the center stage. Readers who are fans of the series will love the lead in to the next book and new readers to the series will fall in love with the great secondary cast, as well as the main couple. A great addition to the series. What I liked: I haven't been reading romantic suspense for very long, but the more I read it, the more I like it. Elle Kennedy certainly knows her way around the genre and makes each scene in her books action packed and full of sizzle, not just in the bedroom. This is one of those books that makes your heart rate speed up, it's just that intense. From the situations their jobs create to the passionate response they have to each other, Ehtan and Juliet provide a great deal of emotion for the reader. Midnight Pursuits is a real nail biter in more ways than one and Kennedy does a wonderful job with it. The main couple in this one provides a classic example of the law of opposites attracting, but they also have some things in common that the reader may not see at first glance. Ethan is the rookie on a team of mercenaries that can really kick some butt, but he isn't low man on the totem pole. He is a very capable and extreme. He is a former Marine and can hang with the best of them. His passion for the job is fierce and he loves the same way. Juliet could be characterized as the ice queen. She's an assassin and she loves her job. She doesn't let people get close and she isn't looking for romance. These two make quite a pair. The passion between them borders on a ferocity of sorts. It's almost animalistic. I think the thing that is so similar about them is that deep seeded need for adrenaline in every thing the do. I loved them sepately but together they were a force to be reckoned with. I have not read the previous books in this series, but after reading this one, it's a given that I will go back and pick up the others. One of the things that made this book such an enjoyable read, were the great secondary characters, many of which have their own stories told in previous books and several with stories yet to tell. This book can easily be read as a stand alone, but I think reading them together probably provides the reader with a much more emotional connection to the group. I liked the underlying tension that existed between the leaders of both groups and it appears that their story is up next. I think each character had a place in this book and I definitely want to know more about each one and these amazing two groups with such strong men and women. What I didn't like: The main couple is drawn to each so strongly even from their first meeting that reader can easily see that they will end up together, there is no doubt of that, but things heated up a lot faster than I expected. I wanted a little more angst and build up to those all important three little words.  Bottom Line: If you are looking for a read that will almost literally knock your socks off, this is it. Midnight Pursuits is that book that will keep you up at night and make you think about it when you are supposed to be working. It's that book that has just as intense love scenes as it does action scenes.

Really liked the book, and a fun read!

Like an action movie check your brain at the door and kick back and enjoy.  I love this series. It is total escapist fun.  Ethan may be young but he has skills.  He has been known to let folks underestimate him because of his youth, good manners and all around good guy image.  The one person he doesn’t want to underestimate him is tough as nails Juliet. When Juliet calls for help Ethan is there as back up and oh so much more. Kick back with the popcorn and enjoy.

Addicting series: MIDNIGHT PURSUITS is the fourth installment in Elle Kennedy’s adult, contemporary Killer Instincts military, romantic suspense series focusing on an elite group of men and women-mercenaries and assassins for hire. This is mercenary/soldier for hire Ethan Hayes, and female assassin Juliet Mason’s storyline. MIDNIGHT PURSUITS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but several of the storyline characters and scenarios cross over between novels, and there is a building story between Noelle and Jim that has been revealing throughout the series. Jim is the commander and leader of the mercenary soldiers and warriors; Noelle is a deadly assassin in charge of a group of female assassins just as deadly and beautiful. Told from several third person perspectives MIDNIGHT PURSUITS follows Ethan and Juliet as they search for the people who ordered the hit on Juliet’s brother’s fiancée. Juliet’s foster brother walked into a grizzly murder in progress and was shot as a collateral victim. On his death bed, Henry asked Juliet to take down the people responsible and what ensues is a dangerous game between Juliet, Ethan and a group of Russian assassins. Juliet is an independent, alpha female assassin who was willing to take on the world to uncover the person responsible for Henry’s death. When an injured Juliet called home for assistance, Ethan was the only available soldier for the job, and he jumped at the chance to aid the beautiful Juliet in her recovery. What Ethan didn’t know was that he was about to get involved in a Russian government conspiracy and revenge killing for the death of a young boy. The relationship between our couple is strained. Ethan is a twenty five year old soldier for hire, and Juliet sees a babe in the woods. She believes Ethan is too young and too naïve for their world of death, destruction and assassins, but what Juliet doesn’t know is that Ethan is more man than she has ever encountered. Juliet continues to push Ethan at every opportunity knowing that her attraction is not one-sided. The $ex scenes are erotic, intense and provocative. The colorful secondary and supporting characters include all of the previous storyline couples as well as Jim and Noelle’s mercenaries for hire. There are several building storylines as the ensemble cast work together to rescue and recover missing and abducted targets and innocent victims. All of our heroes and heroines have dark and dangerous backgrounds; some are victims of betrayal, abuse and neglect; but all believe they are not worthy of love or a happily ever after. Placing themselves in the line of fire is all in a day’s work. There are moments of suspense, mystery, betrayal, romance and love. Elle Kennedy is an incredible romantic suspense writer. Her characters are engaging, amusing, fascinating and passionate; her storylines are intriguing, refreshing, gripping and intense. You will become addicted to the men and women of Elle’s KILLER INSTINCTS series.

Have I mentioned I'm addicted to this series? Because really, I am. This is the first book in the series to get five stars and it earned it. Big time. I looooooooved Ethan. And Juliet, of course.  Ethan appeared earlier in the series as the wet-behind-the-ears rookie. He was young and didn't seem quite as assertive as some of the other guys. But oh my holy hell, in this book? He was pure alpha – and a bit of a dirty talker. It was just so unexpected. I loved it. Juliet has been floating in the background for a couple books now, but she's moved to the forefront in this Midnight Pursuits. I really liked her, too. She was a hardened assassin and thief, but there was much more to her underneath. I loved how the "good boy" Rookie got under her skin and their chemistry was amazing. They were so good together. As much as I loved the slow burn of sexual tension between Ethan and Juliet – and the romance that results – I loved the plot just as much. This book goes from zero to sixty right at the start. Midnight Pursuits brings no holds barred action and suspense with revenge, political corruption and kidnappings. I literally couldn't put it down. As Ethan and Juliet got deeper into this world I was left freaking out, worrying what would become of this pair. Would Juliet get revenge for her brother's murder? Would she find out the real reason behind it? What else would they uncover in the process? Would they survive?  Elle has made me fall in love with romantic suspense, a genre a really never had much time for previously. So it pretty much goes without saying that if you are a fan of romantic suspense, you should be reading this series. Mercenaries and assassins and hot, good-intentioned alpha men and strong as hell women... oh my! I can't ask for more than this. I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

Overall Rating:  4.30 Action: 3.5 / Emotion: 5.0 / Romance: 3.5 / Sensuous: 2.5 / Suspense: 4.0 // Laughter: 2 / Giggle: 2 // Tears: 9 / Teary: 2 Midnight Pursuits: 4.30: Another enjoyable, entertaining, exciting, suspenseful addition to a phenomenal series.  Kennedy has such a gifted voice as she tells her stories that she quickly draws readers into the lives of the characters walking across the pages of her books.  She did so in this book as well, nevertheless, it is not a favorite in this series. Hero: 4.50: Ethan Hayes: Can't help but love this All-American, 'boy next door' member of Morgan's Mercenaries.  Ethan comes across as a gentleman and gives off a competent, serene aura, but when it is time to enter into the fray with the bad guys, he can kick butt (and take names) just like the rest of his teammates. Heroine: 1.50: Juliet "Jules" Mason:  Sorry, but it was just impossible to really, truly like this beautiful, kick-ass, thief and assassin.  Kennedy really did her job at revealing the tender underside beneath Juliet's hard shell (with tear-inducing stories), but her smart mouth and 'what's in it for me' attitude was just too potent to warm up to. Sub-Plot Hero One: 5.00: Derek "D: Platt: My number one favorite character in the series.  Love the way Kennedy is developing D's personality.  And even though he says he has no emotions, his actions continue to prove him wrong.  (Really, really want his story to be the next book in the series.) Sub-Plot Hero Two: 5.00: Jim Morgan: My number two favorite character in the series.  Kennedy has only been giving readers tiny peeks at his personality, but it is just enough to guarantee avid interest.  There is definitely some history between him and Noelle. Secondary Heroine: 4.50: Noelle: The Queen of the Assassins.  Kennedy has her work cut out for her to thaw out the ice around this heart.  Noelle was a bit more palatable in this book, in that she didn't come across quite as cold and brutal as she appeared in the previous books. Story Line: 4.00: Very interesting story line.  When an assassin shots Juliet's beloved brother, she is out for revenge.  Her injury forces this loner to call for help and, Ethan, inadvertently, is the man to answer the call.  The villain is introduced and several other targets are revealed.  Ethan cannot let the remaining targets go unprotected and Juliet agrees to help Ethan and his teammates protect the innocent. Action: 3.50: There were not as many adventurous action scenes in this book, but the ones that were featured were well-written and extremely entertaining. Emotion: 5.00: The most emotionally moving book in the series.  Kennedy really had the tears flowing in this one . . . and the laughter bubbling. Romance: 3.50: The romantic buildup was minimal between Ethan and Juliet because there wasn't enough time between the plethora of events that were occurring during the story.  It was difficult to feel the romantic connection between Ethan and Juliet because they just did not seem to "fit" together.  For some reason, Juliet just did not feel like she was the right woman for Ethan. Suspense: 4.00: Kennedy kept readers immersed in the story because of the exciting, edge-of-your-seat tension running through the book.  You just had to keep reading to see what was going to happen next. Sensuous: 2.50: The love scenes between Ethan and Juliet were spicy, heated, potent, and original when it came to the settings. Secondary Characters: 3.50: Kennedy did not spent quite as much time featuring her secondary characters (and their entertaining dialogue) in this book as in the previous books of the series.  Nevertheless, the attention-grabbing secondary characters were wonderful additions to the story.  They included: {1} Henry Jonathan Albright, {2} Sullivan "Sully" Port, {3} Liam MacGregor, {4} Anastacia "Stacie" Karin, and {4} Dmitry Orlov.  Several minor, but necessary, supporting characters were briefly thrown into the story: {1} Val Markin, {2} Kirill, {3} Alexei Mironov, {4} Nina Berezovsky, {5} Roman, and {6} Mikhail. MIDNIGHT PURSUITS by Elle Kennedy is an exciting Romantic Thriller. #4 in "A Killer Instincts Novel", but can be read as a stand alone. WOW! A fast paced Romantic Thriller. Filled with sizzling sex, high-adventure, heart-pounding excitement, fierce characters, edge of your seat reading, and an emotional tale of two emotionally scarred loners. You will be turning pages faster than you can say "Killer Instincts". Well written with fierce characters and a plot with many twists and turns. A definite keeper! I liked this book a lot. I liked a couple of the earlier books in this series but not all of them. This is a good one.  Very likable characters, great chemistry, very good storyline, really liked it. Not sure whether I'm looking forward  to Jim & Noelle's story but definitely will read it.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 1/2 REVIEW:  The best way to explain Ethan & Juliet is like a tornado meeting a hurricane. While each can be very destructive independently together they will be unstoppable. But somewhere along the way the storms calm and all that is left is each other.  This was a fast pace book. There was no waiting for the action to start. I will say that I think my one of my favorite parts is Ethan’s rules on dating (hehe) Juliet never expected that :D.  If you are a fan of Elle’s Killer Instinct series you will love Ethan & Juliet’s story. Oh and Jack gives us a bit of a surprise at the end of this book (sneaky guy :) ). Looking forward to the next book in this series.  Disclaimer:  I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley & PENGUIN GROUP Berkley, NAL / Signet Romance, DAW in exchange for an honest review. I love Elle Kennedy but unfortunately I only liked two books from this particular series. Thus I decided to try the sample first. However, the sample did not load. Just comes up with an error message. Eight dollars is too much for me to spend without a sample. Bummer.

Got an error message when I tried to open the sample of this book, I found the other books in the series to be good and wanted to read this one.
