Library Journal - Library Journal
Determined to avenge the destruction of his ship and the brutal slaughter of his entire crew, Capt. Rogan Whitney becomes the pirate Rapace and kidnaps the convent-bred foster daughter of the man he considers responsible. Rogan intends to achieve justice; instead, he ends up falling in love. Intricately plotted, competently written, and peopled with a multitude of well-developed characters, this story has much to recommend it; unfortunately, it would also have benefited from tighter plotting and a focus on the protagonists. As it is, the pace lags, and the secondary characters, including the villain, prove to be more interesting than the hero and heroine. Barbieri has written numerous historicals, including Only for Love (Zebra, 1994).
