Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
Part of the "Discovering Nature's Cycles" series, this brief book explains the cycle of animal migration using one large photo and a sentence on each page. Beginning with birds, it describes how they move to the south in the fall and how they travel back north in the spring. The migration of butterflies includes how some fly from Canada to Mexico. Several pages explain how whales and salmon migrate and how many animals journey to find food or to have their families. A map shows the migration paths of gray whales along with more facts about their journey. Lists of Migration Facts are also provided, and a glossary and index round out the book. This simple explanation of animal migration should be easy for young children to understand and the short text should hold their interest. It is a good introduction to a basic science concept.
