In this fourth book in the series, Kiki, Coco, and Lulu officially invite Mika to join the Lotus Lane Girls Club. The girls plan a surprise pajama party to welcome Mika to the club! Afterward though, Mika struggles to make time for all of the LLGC activities, Katy Krupski stirs up trouble (as usual!), and a new girl moves on to Lotus Lane!

This book is written as Mika's diary, with fun illustrations and doodles throughout.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Praise for LOTUS LANE #1: KIKI: MY STYLISH LIFE
"Girly-girls and fans of May's earlier books will eat this up....A good choice for girls who love sparkles." -KIRKUS REVIEWS
Children's Literature - Claudia Mills
This fourth entry in the "Lotus Lane" chapter book series introduces a new girl to the Lotus Lane Girls Club: Mika, who is struggling to make new friends as a recent immigrant from Japan. Mika is delighted when the Lotus Lane girls invite her to join them, but committed as well to Katie; unfortunately, Katie is both the first person at her new school to have made overtures of friendship to her and the girl the others (with some justification) call the "Queen of Mean." Can Mika juggle conflicting loyalties while also coming up with a cool idea for a comic to publish in the school newspaper as well as a cool theme for the Lotus Lane Girls pajama party? Written in diary form, with abundant cartoony illustrations throughout, this is (according to the publisher) designed to appeal to readers in grades one to three and written at a second grade reading level. But it is unsettling to find some aspects of the story so young (Mika explains "hard" words for the reader, like "tantrum, "shrieking," and dance "routine"), while the girls also watch the Teen Movie Awards, text on their cellphones, and write fashion reports and gossip columns for the school paper in ways that seem more appropriate for middle school students. That said, the celebration of girl power and close female friendships is appealing, with some welcome multiculturalism added as well. Reviewer: Claudia Mills, Ph.D.
