Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Lorraine Donohue Bonzelet
Swords, knights, wizards, and dragons from the popular Nickelodeon show "Mike the Knight" are packed into this five book set. Each book introduces a character in the show: Mike is a young knight with his horse Galahad; Evie is Mike's sister and a wizard-in-training; Sparkie is the friendly, fire-breathing dragon; Squirt is the not-so-brave, water-spraying dragon; Trollee is the purple troll who helps Mike. The mini library contains board books less than 4x4 inches each and a box for storage. This set is good for children to improve their coordination turning the pages and putting the books in and out of the box. The bright illustrations, friendly faces and smiling dragons are likely to engage toddlers through early school aged children. The vocabulary (words like wary, loveliest, confidence) and rhyming structure are for an advanced reader. Parents will likely be the readers of sentences such as, "Evie goes out looking for ingredients that are rare—like Nosyus Itchyticklus flower and Makus Dragonum Scare." The size of the book is not ideal for a classroom read-aloud. This mini library makes a good gift for fans of the show. For those unfamiliar, this is a nice overview of the personalities of the characters. This set does not contain a story, so it is not recommended for parents or children looking for an entertaining book with a plot. Reviewer: Lorraine Donohue Bonzelet
