All Music Guide - James Christopher Monger
The soundtrack for the five-part HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce, starring Kate Winslet, Evan Rachel Wood, and Guy Pearce, features a nice mix of popular song, big-band, opera, and classical music, all of which are woven throughout longtime Coen Brothers collaborator Carter Burwell's plaintive original score. Set in the 1930s, Burwell's lovely, emotive, piano-led opening title forms the foundation of his score, and his attention to detail and simplicity lends the film an appropriately sepia-toned hue. The remaining tracks are both subtle and stellar as well, with top-notch performances from Glen Grey & the Casa Loma Orchestra "Milenberg Joys", Hal Kemp & ...

FABULOUS, SUCH A GREAT COMBINATION OF MUSIC, 30'S, CLASSICAL PIANO, AND MAGNIFICENT OPERATIC ARIAS IN FRENCH, GERMAN AND ITALIAN. MUST HAVE!!!

On this CD you will find original tunes from the 1930's, some tunes composed by Carter Burwell which add so expertly to the acting in this HBO mini-series, some classical piano compositions very expertly played as well as several operatic arias sung by Sumi Jo. If you are an opera lover, you will appreciate the arias chosen by Carter Burwell. If you are a lover of 30's music, you will love this CD as well. Those of you who are classical piano fans will also love it. I love it all. This CD is fabulous as is the DVD HBO mini-series not yet available for purchase. But when it is, I'll be first in line. Not only do you get superb acting, but you get so much music. Operatic arias play throughout as do classical piano pieces and the little tunes of the 30's. It is so, so great. You won't be disappointed.
