Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This dazzling work on costume jewelry showcases an extensive array of designers and celebrities that created and promoted these miniature works of art that are worn, adored, and collected everywhere. The highly informative and entertaining introduction highlights the rise and continued use of costume jewelry from ancient times to the present and features many of the influences that make vintage costume jewelry so popular. The book's remainder is divided into four sections focusing on major designers, classic designers, galleries (special collections), and designers to watch. Savvy readers will recognize Boucher, Lalique, Liberty & Company, Chanel, Trifari, and a host of other designers. Background information is provided on each jewelry maker, and each highlighted piece is accompanied by a brief description, a value code, and info on markings, materials used, and size. The "Galleries" section showcases specialty items such as Austrian, Czech, and plastic jewelry along with Christmas tree pins, double clips, jelly bellies, and unsigned favorites. Also included are a glossary of terms and a visual listing of 27 notable jewelers' marks. VERDICT This delightful book will captivate costume jewelry enthusiasts.—Stephen Allan Patrick, Jonesborough, TN
