Millie's Story.: None
"If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

- James Herriot

"Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you. I loved you so- 'and so it is in heaven I wait for you."

- Isla Paschal Richardson

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."

- Irish Headstone

When we first adopted Millie, there was a sense of excitement, fear, love, and empathy. Excitement because we were attempting to become parrot parents. Fear simply because we were starting with a large enough bird that our fingers or other vital parts could be lopped off.

Love was present because we had made the choice to adopt a living creature into our family unit, and empathy was felt because she now had two parents and a home, rather than a noisy pet shop and an uncaring pet shop owner that didn't know the first thing about umbrella cockatoos.

About the Author

Stan Baker joined the military in 1982 where he enlisted in the Navy for nearly 10 years. God, country, and family has always been a priority to Stan. Stan met his wife Vicki in 1996 in Spokane, Washington. In 1997 Stan and Vicki were married in Pasco, Washington and have been together for 27 wonderful years. In 2020 Vicki and Stan began going back to a Church in Festus, Missouri, where both of them returned to a faith that they both had been searching for. After unfortunately being forced into retirement due to a back and neck injury, Stan left his job as a Police Officer, and one night in 2023, God, Faith, or divine intervention entered into Stan’s heart and mind and the idea for this book began forming. This book was written not only for the memory of Millie, but for my wife Vicki who taught, cared for, and loved Millie with all her heart.
