Bathing beauty Esther Williams spent so much of her film career in swim suits that early television comics made quips about her comely near nakedness. However, in comparison to this bare-all autobiography, Williams's demure Jantzens were models of modesty. The Million Dollar Mermaid recounts her meteoric, seemingly implausible rise from oppressed salesgirl to national swimming champion to MGM film star. However, Williams' picture-perfect form and carefully constructed family film dramas were not replicated in her off-hours. Her marriages were troubled; her lovers numerous, weird, and irritating; and her financial acumen essentially non-existent.

Through it all, Williams tucked it in, stretched out those shapely legs, and kept paddling. An entertaining read; a well-deserved splash.

    Not all wet

    Very enteraining book. Some of the side stories are just as interesting as hers. I think her life was pretty sad when she could not have her children live with her. However her contribution to the swimming world is truly remarkable.

    Dishy!

    A fun read - really dishy stuff -a nude Marlene Dietrich, a cross dressing Jeff Chandler and a pompus overbearing egotistical, chauvinistic, vain Fernando Lamas not to mention a manipulative Arlene Dahl.
