Overview

Congratulations—You just won $22 million in the Lottery! So what happens next?

In Heather McElhatton's second do-over novel, Million Little Mistakes, you win $22 million in the lottery. Given the chance to live like a millionaire, you could realize all your dreams or learn that money only causes more problems. It all depends on the choices you make . . .

Should you keep your day job? Stay in your relationship? Save an endangered species? Have a debauched weekend on Sex Island? Buy an aristocrat's life on eBay or pay off all your family's debt? Should you climb Mount Everest, trek the remote jungles of China, book passage on a luxury cruise, or become an infamous Voodoo priestess? Is your destiny to become a philanthropist, a pharmaceutical tycoon, a happy homemaker, or a burlesque stripper? Be careful. Your fortune could be lost in a Ponzi scheme; your wildest fantasy may bring you total bliss or lead you to a run-in with extortionists who try to kill you.

There are hundreds of possible adventures sown inside Million Little Mistakes. Some lives end fabulously while others in utter disaster, so choose wisely. You can buy a lot with $22 million, but can you buy a happy ending?

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
For those who fondly remember the childhood joy of choose-your-own-adventure novels, McElhatton's second Do-Over book (after Pretty Little Mistakes) is another gleeful narrative grab-bag that starts off with "you" winning million in the lottery. You can keep your job or quit, and your relationship with boyfriend Aidan can tank or survive. McElhatton provides a lot of smooth and snarky choices, most entertaining, a few duds, and some quite unexpected, as with a path that leads to a marriage to George Clooney (though he turns out to be a real snooze). In another you can end up dead on the set of a movie; marry a lighthouse keeper; end up in a space shuttle explosion; and on and on. McElhatton's exploration of choices made with the best (or worst) intentions offers hours of easy fun. (Aug.)

    Great!

Loved her first book, and reading the second on the Nook is amazing - so easy, so fun, love it! Hope she writes another. Some of the stories are cheesy, but it's so fun getting there.

    I Also Recommend:

    This Book is Amazing!

Heather McElhatton must be delightfully deranged! For only a crazy person could have created such a bizarrely entertaining set of circumstances! What can I say - I've finished about half of the storylines, and without giving too much away, I'll tell you that I've been blown up, lived the life of an American aristocrat, and become a sort-of modern day Ma Barker - just to name a few outcomes.

The lives you can live in Million Little Mistakes range from the extravagant and whimsical to the ludicrouss and demented - basically, this book is fantastic! You may remember that I read McElhatton's first do-over novel, Pretty Little Mistakes, a few weeks ago and loved it. I really didn't think she could have come up with even more and better scenarios for Million Little Mistakes, but she has certainly topped herself here.

Million Little Mistakes is a little different from Pretty Little Mistakes in that every storyline doesn't end in your death. Don't get me wrong, there are some casualties contained within the pages, but do not fear the reaper - sometimes the end is left entirely up to your imagination. As someone who enjoyed surrendering her many lives in Pretty Little Mistakes, the stories that I most relished in Million Little Mistakes ended in death. McElhatton's creativity is brilliantly illustrated in her descriptions of the diverse afterlives of people. One of my favorites so far is one where the dead are in a train station, and everyone has 30 seconds to board the train for their next life. The author quips, "No wonder people pick crappy lives; they hardly have time to pick at all." I love it!

Million Little Mistakes is a fun and witty read with a little something for everyone. Hilarious and captivating, you will not be able to stop reading. As for me, I'm going back in to change everything. There's really no telling where my choices will take me this time, but I can't wait to find out!
