Children's LiteratureThis Milly Molly book has been written to promote the acceptance of diversity and helpfulness. Who will be rewarded for finding Dad's missing sock? The value implicitly expressed in this story is helpfulness—making something easy, better or quicker for someone. Milly and Molly were very helpful in asking everyone if they had seen the missing sock. They wanted to help Milly's Dad find his sock. The message seems to be "We may look different but we feel the same." The language and style are age-appropriate for young children. It may serve as a teaching tool in social studies programs. The illustrations are good for young children because of the simplicity. There are little touches of humor in each of them. Family and/or community figures are always good references for children. 2002, Milly Molly Books, Ages 4 to 8.
