Children's LiteratureThe girls are at the beach and catch a straw hat which has blown away. They walk along the beach, trying to find the owner by observing children building sand castles, a fisherman, and a lady gathering seaweed, all of whom have hats. When they find four pair of shoes with only three hats, they leave the hat under the fourth pair of shoes. Then they wonder if they guessed right. A "Parent Guide" at the end of the book points out the honesty of the girls in finding the owner. To learn which child is which, look at the first picture of the girls sitting on a bench. Milly has brown skin and black, curly hair. Molly has pink skin and straight, blonde hair. At the beginning and end of the book is the saying, "We may look different but we feel the same." The story and bright, simple pictures, capture the innocence of childhood. The end papers show Milly, Molly dolls. This is one of the "Milly, Molly" series coming to us from New Zealand. 2002, Milly Molly Books, Ages 4 to 8.
