Editorial Reviews

James D'Olimpio
Patients facing a diagnosis of cancer and, more importantly, its course and treatments, are overwhelmed with choices and information. There is tremendous anxiety to "make the right choice", even when this is not always possible, rational or realistic. Many books now exist which contribute in very positive but also unfortunately, veru negative ways which can add to the confusion or, at the very least, fail to allay anxieties. Ms. Dahm's book is different. It is written by a very experienced and well trained nurse who has first hand experience and insight into this ever-challenging realm. The book is unique in that it spans the entire potential of treatment and course of illness. It is written with a refined technical expertise but also has a wonderful spiritual and humanistic perspective.
Director of Palliative Medicine Service
Paolo L. Mafredi
Ms. Dahm has succeeded in the challenging accomplishment of delivering a wellrounded book for patients and families confronted with cancer. She guides the reader through a holistic approach to the numerous problems faced by patients with cancer and at the same time she delivers up-to-date scientific information. She nicely blends practical information with spiritual advice and medical bullets. Although not every one may be receptive for some of the more spiritual parts of this book, most of the humanistic content and certainly the practical advice and the user-friendly science are going to be useful for patients and families.

    Very informative book on cancer

This is a very special book. It is as though Nancy Hassett Dahm speaks to the reader. It offers a broad range of information and answers many questions anyone with cancer would have. It helps people journey through their illness with dignity and self respect. It offers hope and strength because it provides people with knowledge - the knowledge that it is possible to attain a level of comfort that makes their journey more bearable. It also offers a spiritual component to it that is so extraordinarily helpful in times of need. This book is a powerful tool for any person or family member experiencing a diagnosos of cancer. It is wonderful book and I would highly recommend it.
